What are road conditions looking like for this event?
I know we're over a week away, but I understand that part of the county has been hit badly with the snow.

Anybody know what the small local roads are like, and is the road to the radar station open?
But seriously, what could possibly go wrong

The Mennock and Dalveen passes were both passable on Monday, but there's been a dump since then   :-\

I have no idea about the condition of the road through Ae forest.  :(

The radar road is looking unlikely unless they send a plough up soon.  :'(

The organisers ride is supposed to be this Sunday, but at the moment, it may be a route check by car

Unfortunately, after checking the route yesterday, I have decided to remove the radar climb from the route. This picture shows the start of the road at 400m, god only knows what its like 6km later above 700m. A new route sheet / GPS file will be emailed shortly.

On a more positive note, all other roads are snow free, and looking at this weeks forecast, you're in for a great day out.

Why not drag them up Apache and back down for more gratuitous climbing? Or better still, all the way to a control at Crawfordjohn and back over Apache again:demon:

We just need a fleet of Fatbikes stationed at the start of the radar climb, so that riders can swap machines for that section  :D

Updated route sheets were emailed on Monday.  There has been 1 instance of the email not being received.

If anyone else hasn't received theirs, can you let me know please

See you on Saturday

Conditions look excellent assuming the Met isn't too wide of the mark... looking forward to this

Just been getting my bike ready and I'm feely stupidly over-excited at the prospect of my first decent bike ride in months . Yet feeling sufficiently out of condition that I've left the dyno-lighting on the bike :-[

It was worth being over-excited for! Well organised, good route and good weather. What more could you ask for. Got round in a shade over ten hours so no need for the lights and I'm feeling quite pleased with myself.

Big thanks to Revolution9 and his helpers. And to GlagowJim and NeilMcD for the company.

Thanks Russell and team; a grand day out. Well-organised, great route and good weather with soup and pie to finish. What's not to like?

Yes a grand day out. Having driven the M74 quite a few times, and gazed up and wondered what the surrounding hills are like I had high hopes for some good scenery, and quiet roads.
I wasn't disappointed, beautiful ride made even better by the excellent weather and good organisation.
Certainly an event I'd like to do again, especially as there is still new ground to be covered on the climb to the radar station.
But seriously, what could possibly go wrong

Really nice run. In spite of this being pretty close to me, it's a part of the country I've not ridden much and ticked off a few new roads yesterday. Got round very comfortably helped by the weather. Was only sorry I couldn't hang about at the finish to enjoy a bite to eat and a blether though managed to do plenty of both on the ride.  Great effort for your first event Russell to you and helpers.

Was indeed a grand day out with a great route and good road surfaces to ride on, didn't miss the ride  up to the radar station at all. cheers to all for the company, especially Valkyrie who took his life in his hands riding with the west coast take down team.

Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing

Yesterday was my first 200k Randonnee and I'm still buzzing with endorphins.
A really great day out, thanks to Russell and everyone involved, and for the good company on the ride  :)

I thoroughly enjoyed this ride, it was good to explore an area I've not cycled in before. A big thank you to Russell and co. for organising and making the day go so well. Also thanks to Neil, Donald and Ian for the company and (ahem) occasional tow.

Many thanks to Russell and his team. Really enjoyed the route and the weather. Struggled on the hills but that goes with the territory. Impressed by the big snow banks at Wanlockhead. Last time I was there I twisted my ankle running down from the hills above. Was out on a 15 mile hillwalk yesterday with the boss and was equally slow on the uphills but a tad quicker going down.
