Title: Tan Hill Summer Camping Weekend: 5th/6th July 2019
Post by: Graeme on 15 December, 2018, 08:34:38 pm
Summer 2019 Tan Hill Inn party. 5th/6th July 2019.

Cycling up to Tan Hill is a pretty groovy experience and there are several different routes to get there. It is especially cool when we approach from every direction. The last two winter meets have involved some rather hard conditions - so let's be kind to ourselves and have some fun when the weather is balmy.

This looks fun. I could be interested in riding from the west. A very quiet year for cycling and a house move to Lancashire in prospect in spring; this could be just the motivation needed, thank you

How about the weekend of July 12th?  It's the weekend of my 34th birthday so you could celebrate me absolutely definitively entering my mid 30s (if I haven't already) and starting to be an old fart like the rest of you.

Sorry Karla, I've got a Wedding that weekend. However, the 5th/6th July would be good for me from a church perspective, and doesn't clash with northeastern Audaxes. We could still wish you a happy Birthday too.

I'm going to suggest Friday/Saturday 5th and 6th July.

I'm out, it's the national 100 that weekend.

Poop. I didn't see that one in the places I checked for clashed events.

I'll let others decide and then will try to make it.

Would be nice to ride down Arkengarthdale without contending with yesterday's wind and ice.

I'd be keen.  Not cycled to Tan hill for years, since a week of cycling with Gunnerside as a base.  Camping would be good.

ps.  National 100?  Doesn't seem to exist on t'interweb...

Ah but it is on the 7th. So a night at Tan Hill could be part of your tapering then Karla.

So I'm definitely going. Booked time off work to avoid a finding myself with a Wedding booking. Taking Carol and Finn-the-dog too. At the very least it will be a nice summer weekend break.

:)

I was thinking incorporating a 80-100km Tan Hill <-> Great Dun fell, may be fun...   :)

I have a twin room booked and I'm planning on taking Carol if she is well enough. Otherwise I'll cycle up there.

See you there Deano?

It's a possible for me - we'll have just been away.   Probably would aim to drive up to Tan Hill with tent, arriving 'earlyish', and then perhaps a do a bit of a ride...  e.g. TH-Gunnerside-Reeth-Arkengarthdale moor-TH?   What sort of time would you plan to arrive on Fri?  Do you head off back on the 6th post ride, or Sun am?

I'm working on the Sunday, but I have all day Friday and Saturday. So my plan is either to slowly drive up with Carol, enjoying taking the long way to get there and arrive at teatime... meet friends, drink beer, find out what we've all be up to.... then Saturday the TH does wonderful breakfasts - even the veggie option is really tasty

Or.

Same plan but if Carol isn't well, cycle. Probably from Northallerton via Muker and then on Saturday midday follow Deano back to Darlo on one of his COR routes.

It's not much of a plan, but I've printed it out and written 'plan' on it, so it'll have to do.

There's a few VC167 riders coming I've heard. Angela Walker of 'All Points North' fame too.

Carol isn't well enough for the journey, so I'm cycling there.

Cheers, G.

Good weekend - in a change to the usual program, we (me and Graeme and one of my sisters) rode up together, then went our separate ways back. I went to try and ride the Stainmore railway, photos on Strava if anyone wants a skeg: https://strava.app.link/q4BxL4Wv8X

I've had a silly idea involving Tan Hill (https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=113747.0).  Would any of you lovely people like to get involved?

It is a good silly idea - although it clashes with All Saints and All Souls so I'm likely to be busy. Also there is another overnighter planned for the York ride to the Goths on 25th Oct and there are only so many overnighters I can manage at this time of year. Good call though. :)
