Safe to get a service?
« on: 17 March, 2020, 12:52:50 pm »
Is it likely to be OK to take my bike to the LBS for a service considering:
- I always wear gloves when riding it
- The bike lives in a cold but dry shed between rides and I don't tend to kiss/cough on the bike
- The shop guys use disposable gloves for mechanical work
- They're happy to do the work and it will keep the shop going?

Yes. Get it serviced! Before the strategy changes and retailers start closing.

Might be worth calling ahead.

Yes! Definitely use your lbs for servicing. I'm sure they will appreciate the custom.

Get it serviced, bring it home wash hands thoroughly, leave the bike alone for four days.

Maybe?
It is simpler than it looks.

er, actually 9 days to be absolutely safe, depending on the temperature.
It is simpler than it looks.

Interestingly, in France, bike shops are exempt from having to close , as repairs are seen as essential to getting people to work.
My friend with a shop near the Alps is offering free service to health and emergency services customers.
