We had monkfish cheeks wrapped in parma ham, baked on roasted taters, veggies & chorizo.

We had Gurnard fillets, baked in foil with a bit of lemon and butter, with carrots, spinach and a few Charlotte potatoes from our (very) meagre crop.

Tonight it will be beefburgers.

For tonight I am making squab pie* (which doesn't actually contain any pigeon). Mutton, apple, onion, sultanas, spice. Was supposed to be a 'diet' version with crumpled filo pastry on, but the pack of frozen filo turns out to be puff pastry. Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.

*: based on this recipe, but modified when MrsC, who is Cornish, insisted I check all her Cornish recipe books as well, hence the addition of the spice and the sultanas.

I had leftovers when I got in from my ride, which was a Caribbean style curry, featuring kidney beans, sweet potato and coconut milk.

That didn't satiate me so I ordered salt & pepper tofu & mushroom rice from the Chinese at the end of my road.

I went shopping & came back with all manner of tasty meat things.   Then got sidetracked & ended up having spaghetti with asparagus & home made pesto.  Strawberries & cheese to follow.

Remains of last night's fridge curry.  Mmm perfect.  All the sharp corners knocked off and the depth of spice and flavour so improved and rounded.
Why don't we cook all our curries several days ahead?
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I've just done the charred tomatoes thing again , this time with lamb steaks.      I was left with a bowl containing a "soup" of yogurt, warm, herb flavoured olive oil & tomato juices , but no bread.

Reader , I got a spoon ....  :P

Feeling a little smug.
A recipe idea nicked off Celebrity Masterchef.

Pan fried pollock, marinated in nigella seeds, fresh ginger and chilli.
Served with red-lentil dhal (containing some chopped dried dates), plain rice, yoghurt and a tomato and onion salad.

MrsC has told me I can do that one again.  :smug:

Feeling lazy so I just dressed a chicken with lemon & butter & herbs, then stuck it in the oven.  Some of that with a pile of plain rice.

Liver, bacon and onion, fried (the liver in strips and floured), then water and tomato purée added (with a dash of Worcestershire sauce) to make a gravy for it. Plain boiled pots, carrots and peas.

What the recipe describes as a 'retro' risotto with goats cheese and beetroot.
Wonderful colour! And pretty good flavour as well. I will do again. Needed the sharpness of the cheese to offset the sweetness of the beetroot and might have been better with parmesan (which is what the recipe called for) rather than pecorino (which is what we had).

Very black fud!

Venere nero (black rice) with cavolo nero. (original recipe Riverford)

1 knob butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 onion chopped
150g venere nero (black rice)
1/2 can of chopped tomatoes
2 garlic cloves crushed
300 ml vegetable or chicken stock
200 cavolo nero
1 garlic cloves thinly sliced
2 tablespoons freshly grated Parmesan cheese
a drizzle of truffle oil (optional)

Heat the butter in a large pan with 2 tablespoons of the olive oil. Add the onion and cook gently for about 10 minutes, until soft. Stir in the black rice, season well and cook for 3 minutes. Add the tomatoes and garlic and cook over a low heat for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, heat up the stock in a separate pan. Add it to the rice and simmer for 30 minutes, until the rice is just tender and the stock has been absorbed.

While the rice is cooking, strip the cavolo nero leaves from their central ribs and blanch them (with chopped stalks) in a large pan of boiling salted water for 3 minutes. Drain, refresh in cold water, then drain again. Squeeze out excess water and chop roughly.

Heat the rest of the olive oil in a pan, add the garlic and cook for about 3 minutes. Add the chopped cavolo, cover and braise slowly for 5 minutes. Season to taste.

When the rice is just cooked, mix in the cavolo nero and Parmesan. Drizzle with truffle oil and serve.

I've posted another lemon risotto one https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=808.msg2525942;topicseen#msg2525942.
It's from the Grauniad and we've done it a couple of times. Rachel Roddy's column is always a good read, even if I don't want to make the recipe.

Haddock, cooked with a sauce made from tinned tomatoes, garlic, chilli, fennel & a dash of sugar.  Served over rice with tahini & coriander on top.

Hmmm, a waste of haddock IMO. Pollack maybe. We had sea bass fillets with wilted spinach, carrots and green beans.  Tomorrow is Chinese: chicken and cashew nut in hoisin sauce, broccoli and garlic in oyster sauce, and egg fried rice.
