I'm signed up!

Who's everyone else gone with?

I've gone for a collection of riders who should win stages:
Franck SCHLECK - might get a stage doing the old one two with his bro
Denis MENCHOV - I'd like to see him win it (but he won't)
Carlos SASTRE - will win a stage or two ater he blows the GC
David MONCOUTIE - I reckon he's good for a win on bastille day!
Mark CAVENDISH - Short of crashing in the prolouge, certain to win stages
Christophe MOREAU - alternative winner on bastille day
Fabian CANCELLARA - Certain TT victor
Jens VOIGT - usually in breakaways. this year two stages with no team radios, so who knows?
Sebastian LANG - only 2point rider I'd heard of!

My team's called zebG FWIW.

Team Bunbury: (Mainly seems to be a cross between Columbia and Saxobank)

Andy Schleck - this guy will go far
Frank Schleck - Schleck brothers FTW!
Carlos Sastre - ditto Gonzo's prediction
Chris Anker Sorensen - made up my points
Mark Cavendish - bound to win stages
Marcus Burghardt - will hopfully win another stage
Mark Renshaw - keeps MB company with another Columbia domestique
Bradley Wiggins - good TTer
Kim Kirchen - places high

Following the stunning success that was the YACF Giro Fantasy League*, I've created a Tour league for YACF - the code is 02090223.

Cyclechat's league, which you can also join, is 01174735.

* I think there were three of us

Is anyone not going to take Cav on their roster!?!
Title: Re: Virtual Tour Manager - velogames.com
Post by: Thor on 03 July, 2009, 04:00:35 pm
I've sacked Cav in favour of Andy Schleck.  Which means I have to resort to Haussler for my sprinter.  Team Thunder will make a slow start but maybe a stronger finish.  :-\

Yes, well Boonen's return has thrown my wildcard of Alan Davis into question. Even if he rides it will be Boonen going for the wins.

I've swapped around and gone for Moncoutie in place of Kreuziger (to save points) and Oscar Freire as my wildcard. With Wiggins, Avesen and Terpstra as domestiques.

Someone's being a little hopeful ;)

He did quite well in the Giro.  Gotta support the home grown talent.  I reckon he has always underperformed due to unhappy surroundings.  That seems to be a thing of the past.  Some of their new signings this year have been Aussies too.

The site says entries are open until 15.30 CET today, so there's still time.

No.  I just tried.  Well at about 7:30 this morning.  It let me go through the registering bit and then told me that entries were closed.  ::-)

No scores up yet?
Title: Re: Virtual Tour Manager - velogames.com
Post by: SpaceBadger on 05 July, 2009, 09:08:18 am
It normally takes a few days for the first scores to be posted, allowing for the checking to take place and the swapping of riders before the start.

After the initial effort, scores usually make it up on the site on the following morning.

With your team Grub I think it might be better to wait a few days anyway.

The scores are up for stage 1. I'll take 5th at this stage (not counting rdaviesb's apparent entry in triplicate!).

Hmmm, 10th place after stage 1. That would be due to my general lack of interest in the overall!

Sorry guys. No idea what happened there. Must be my excessive use of Chrome.

Oh dear, my star climber, Robert Gesink has withdrawn with a fractured wrist after that little tumble yesterday.  There goes my tour result. I was banking on big things from him.

Hmm, it's tight in the middle. Surprised Moncoutie hasn't done something yet but maybe he's saving it for Bastille Day.

I must admit, I perhaps should have looked at the route profile before choosing riders!

At last we've had some days in the mountains though so I should begin to wrack up some points now though. I'm slightly surprised by Menchov's lack of form TBH.

Congrats Vosrpung... I narrowly avoided the wooden spoon.

Crap performance by Evans didn't help - never expected him to win but I thought he would get on the podium.

The game needs the ability to substitute in my view. OK a real manager goes in with 9 riders but they have more control about how riders are used.

If you were able to have a couple of reserves who could be swapped in, or some other way to emphasise certain riders on certain stages it would keep interest going, in the way that Fantasy Football does.

Basically once the race has started if one or two of your people crash out early, or ride to team orders, then you're sunk.

The site does not appear to have been updated with the final stage outcome and since there are additional points for final GC and team position, there may be significant changes to come.

I imagine vorsprung will still win though.

Congrats Vorsprung!

I'm beginning to regret picking the Menchov/Sastre duo who were going to dominate in the mountains!

Just like the real thing then?  ;D

I like the simplicity of this game, even though I usually lose out to teams selected on the basis of silly names and nice looking bikes  :-\

I now have to suffer the endless debate among my work mates over lunch about which overpaid Premiership players they're going to transfer in or out of their fantasy teams that day. Dull! Roll on next year's TdF...
