Today we took Poppy to the beach for her first visit. Lucy came along too.

(Poppy's expression is so great in that photo - Lucy is standing still and Poppy is running at full pelt)

And here's a little film of Poppy and Lucy demonstrating their usual level of interaction.

The still frame that it finishes on is Fab of Poppy!

That is gorgeous.  That is just how Poppy would look if she was being illustrated by E H Sheperd...
If I had a baby elephant, it could help me wash the car. If I had a car.

Went off to dog training today on the trike. This time we used the thicker cable ties on the basket lid (the holes were too big so Poppy could get her head out, but she can cut through small cable ties with her teeth!) and she wasn't able to bite her way through them. She realised this soon enough and just sat and enjoyed the ride with just the occasional whimper.

However, she is getting ideas above her station as to whereabouts on the trike she should sit.

She'll never be able to reach the pedals.

I was out all day yesterday and James reports that he found Poppy swinging like Tarzan from a lead which was hanging off a hook outside.

So he invented her a doggy punchbag/swinging toy which is suspended from our garden swing chair.

He moved the chair seat bit and tied a plastic milk bottle with about a litre of water in it onto some ropes with a rubber ring toy on as well for good measure.

She spent ages attacking it, jumping all over it and generally loves it.

I tried to take a quick video today but she was rather distracted by Lucy eating a yoghurt pot out of shot so she didn't play with it for long, but it gives you an idea.

Poppy has lost her first tooth.

So it's goodbye to puppyhood and hello to young adulthood. Probably a good thing (I have struggled with the responsibility of puppyhood at times) but it does mean she won't be quite as sweet any longer. But still cute, I am sure.

A day in the life of Poppy...

Here's a start...

Wakey wakey, 8am, time to get up!

A quick stretch before going outside for a wee.

Can I have my breakfast now please?

First Lucy, as top dog, gets to eat hers - yesterday's leftovers. She wolfs down everything except the olives. Poppy looks on from the other side of the baby gate.

Finished my breakfast! In the kong and the bowling ball, some nice James Wellbeloved puppy kibble.

The necessary post-breakfast garden expedition.

Now Poppy is allowed to finish off what Lucy didn't want - the olives. Lucy looks on, feeling sure she shouldn't let Poppy eat her food, but not wanting to eat it herself!

Now off for a walk with Rose the Fox Terrier and some other people from a walking group Auntie Helen attends. First we have to greet Rose with the traditional Whirling Dervish dance.

Then off the lead, off in front with the people of the walking group.

Called back to Auntie Helen, Rose and her owner, Poppy decides to do some more playing.

Which involves lots of biting of faces.

Now Poppy has a stick!

After an hour's walk, punctuated by lots of playing, we're back at the car and Poppy goes into her crate in the boot.

Rose comes back for some more play whilst Auntie Helen and Rose's owner enjoy some tea and cake. Then the visitors return home and Poppy gets ready to settle down in the Study whilst Auntie Helen does some work.

...to be continued

It's a lot more interesting than a Day In The Life of Talisker.

(i) Get up.
(ii) Have breakfast (with that nasty pill first ).
(iii) Sleep.
(iv) Have munchies and/or go to loo.
(v) Repeat (iii) to (iv) a random number of times.
(vi) Go back to (i).
Actually, it is rocket science.

I think that flow diagram should read:-

(vii) Go to (i)

Today Poppy went out in the bike basket again for six and a half miles (to dog training and back).

Here she is, still with the mistaken belief that she should sit on my seat (especially when she has muddy paws!)

And here she is helping James change his bike tyres.

Google used to do that too, til one day when he was about 1 1/2 years he got stuck in the cat flap coz he had got too fat and I heard scrabbling downstairs in the middle of the night  ;D

I then fitted a larger dog flap!

There's posh for you!  Indi gets a bowl, raised off the floor, on a plastic flower pot. Poppy gets a butler and fine crystal!  I've no doubt the glass is filled with the finest and purest water, helicoptered in from some Swiss glacier run off.    ::-)  ;D

Some pics of Poppy from our walk today at Highwoods Country Park in Colchester.

You can see we gave Poppy quite a short haircut last Thursday.

Here she is with Lucy, both of them pretending to be ruminants.

And this is a pic which went a bit wrong but is funny - she was standing nice and still looking at the camera but leapt up and started running towards me just as I took the photo.
