Love that song, Damon, Chicago I think?
There are so many song titles, appropriate to audax and cycling once you start to think about them. A current fave of mine, Richard Hawley, has on his current cd:- As the Dawn Breaks, Soldier On, For your lover give some time (ie cancel a ride?...) and on his last one:-Tonight the streets are ours, Lady Solitude, Dark Road (Its a long dark road that I call my own, its a long dark road that I'm cursed to roam...), I'm looking for someone to find me (GPS battery run out?),Our Darkness, The sun refused to shine. Maybe he should take up audax?

For those epic rides:- Six Days on the Road (Asleep at the Wheel version) The Sun Rising (The Beloved). Bike, Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd) Dazed and Confused (Led Zep) Pretty Vacant (Sex Pistols) I Lost Control again (Joy Division- or should that be I've lost THE control again.. Out of Time (Chris Farlowe), Wake me up before you go go (Wham), Lost in France (Bonnie Tyler), Can't find my way home (Blind Faith), Go You're Own Way (Fleetwood Mac) We gotta get outta this place (The Animals), Take it to the limit (The Eagles), Knocking on Heaven's Door (Dylan), Feeling Single, Seein Double (George Jones) Slow Rider (Foghat), Why does it always rain on me? (Travis).Raining in my heart (Buddy Holly).I can see clearly now (Johnny Nash) I Can see for miles (The Who), Ain't no Mountain High Enough (Diana Ross..) Its a long way to the top (If you wanna rock n roll) (AC/DC). Into the Valley (The Skids). Long Distance Love (Little Feat) 24 hours from Tulsa (Gene Pitney). All Day and All of the Night (The Kinks) Rambling on My Mind (Robert Johnson) Dust my Broom (Elmore James - or should that have been pass the sudocreme?)

Chain Gang (Sam Cooke) Leader of the Pack (shangri-Las), Ride Like the Wind (Chris Cross) Don't Stop Til You Get Enough (late great Michael Jackson). Honking Down the Highway (Beach Boys) Gordon Lightfoot sang;-Early Morning Rain, Care-free highway, Rainyday People, Restless. Bob Dylan's 2nd LP was the Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, but on his first he sang an old Blues called Fixin to die (so maybe he started out fixed wheel?) Of Course, Freewheelin' started out with Blowing in the Wind. If the storms get worse then Like a Hurricane (Neil Young) might be an appropriate soundtrack.

Finally, a few Beatles tunes are appropriate:-
The long and Winding Road
When I get home
Tomorrow Never Comes
You Wont See me (fast cyclist?)
Help!
I'm Down
Fool on the Hill
I'm so tired
I'ts all too much
I've got a feeling
Lucy in the sky with Diamonds ( for those PBP 'visionary moments in the rain?')
Good day Sunshine

Sounds like the Beatles must have ridden audax too!
Not just a cyclist's wife!

"It Might as well rain until September" Carol King

"The sun ain't gonna shine any more" Walker Brothers

"Festering home with a pong in the air" Scottish traditional

"Leader of the Pack" The Shangri-Las (can be sung in the event of success or failure)

"Back to the start" Cold Play

"We gotta get out of this place" The animals

"Ring of Fire" Johnny Cash (One for Mrs Miles' problem page possibly)

California Dreaming...

all the leaves are brown
and the sky is grey
I've been for a ride
on a winter's day

I'd be safe and warm
if I was in L.A
California Dreamin'
on such a winter's day

stopped into a church
I passed along the way
well, I got down on my knees
and I pretend to pray

you know the preacher likes the cold
he knows I'm gonna stay
California Dreamin'
on such a winter's day

all the leaves are brown
and the sky is grey
I've been for a ride
on a winter's day

if I didn't tell her
I could leave today
California Dreamin'
on such a winter's day

Imagine this sung by Eddi Reader....

Change down quick
Before you turn L sp. Ipsden
I nearly packed on the Quiet Lane

But then you
Dropped me hard
Power bar, take a breather.
For a while, I was somewhere flat.

I'm over it now...
I was climbing that hill
Pushing my granny ring.
But I'm over it now.

The boy who takes
The money
At the cafe
Winked at me
I said keep the change.

And then I
Smiled at you
A second hand info-card response
For a while, I was somewhere flat.

I'm over it now &c.

Half term's when the traffic becomes mysteriously less bad for a week.

One about route sheets.

Your time has come your second skin
The cost so high the gain so low
Walk through the valley
The written word is a lie

May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you

By coincidence, I took delivery of a randomly ordered CD that has a song that seems to summarise audaxing both in mood (folksy, simple, relentless) and content.

It's called "Lonesome Traveller" by the Weavers.

For some reason, the chorus from the Beach Boys' "Sloop John B" often comes into my head:
"Let me go home, I wanna go home,
This is the worst trip I've ever been on."

 ;D

It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

I'm sitting onna Brooks creation
Gotta route sheet for my destination
On a tour of hot dog stands my brevet card and pen in hand
And each control is neatly planned whether info stop or checkpoint manned,
Arrivee bound,
I wish I was,
Arrivee bound,
Home where my thought's escaping,
Home where my music's playing,
Home where my spreadsheet’s waiting
Silently for me.

69th St Bridge song - not sure it needs any changes

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.
Ba da, Ba da, Ba da, Ba da...Feelin' Groovy.
Hello lamp-post,
What cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.
I've got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.
