Just been talking to Little and Mrs Cudzos, who arrived in Poland today for a short holiday. It's -27 where they are, but not much snow she says.

Well I did put them on and was glad I did, there was some ice in parts, although to be fair the group members without winter tyres didn't fall off either, although they did walk around a veritable glacier at one point. I loved the security of not having to worry so much about the ice. It also gave me a chance to 'ride them in', as the instructions say to do 25 miles on a hard road surface to help the studs bed in. I did 55
But did you ride over the glacier?

Unfortunately 6 riders stopped in front of me to walk the glacier so I had to stop too, but the next iced over puddle section I rode over all of it and the tyres totally mullered the ice

They had discussed sending me down certain downhill dodgy bits first to test the road out, but I pointed out that me staying upright would not give them that much useful info anyway

Blimey, that's really 'Taters in the Mould' isn't it. And some of those -35s in the Ukraine. Serious stuff.

It's -6 here in Chesham at 22.45pm [my car]. [The ~~frost pocket~~ weather station will probably record -12 later tonight]
That, is positively Mediterranean in comparison! All of a sudden I feel warm.

We've still had nothing serious in the way of frosts. LOwest temperature in 2011: -1.7°C. Lowest so far this year: -1.4°C. Mind you, it's currently -1.4°C so we might just beat that tonight. The Met Office are forecasting a minimum temperature over the next 5 days as -1 for Southend.

My car was saying -6 this morning when I left home, -7 at my son's friend's house. I dropped off the lads at their Explorer group leader's house - they're off down to the New Forest to spend the day walking.

Son came out of the house this morning as I was scraping the car, all sensibly dressed in layered walking clothing and daysack on his back ready to go. I asked if he'd got his jacket in the bag (it may snow later, or he may need it as a windproof) - he'd forgotten it

We've had a dusting of snow in the night. Mind you, the weather station's software seems to be playing silly buggers: it has the lowest temperature today reading -1.1 at 23.30. Given that it's something past 9 now, I reckon that the last time it was 23.30 was yesterday.

Local temp is -4 here, with a feels like -8,it is bright clear and sunny at the moment but we're supposed to be getting a big pile of snow this evening.

It's warmed up, it's windy and there's a hint of drizzle in the air. Ominous looking clouds, but it doesn't look particularly snowy.

So far the forecast has been spot on for today here in the Chilterns. Cold morning 9around -10 at 07:00. Rose above 0 about half an hour ago, in the strengthening southerly breeze. Snow forecast between 18:00 and 03:00 - light/heavy/light. Hopefully it'll be wrong.
