On the bright side, the grass still isn't growing and I don't need to get the mower out.

Snowing in N-U-L area, again!

I've just returned from a ride. It's the hard snow that feels like grit when it hits you in the face.

There's a strong possibility that March will end up being even colder than February. Feb finished with a mean temperature of 3.8°C. March, as of now, has a mean temp of 3.9°C. THe Met Office are forecasting a maximum temperature of 4°C from now to the end of Saturday. That really is spectacularly grim.

Since this cold weather is coming from the east, and that's making the wind cold, then presumably the wind was warmer before it got to Siberia or wherever, and it is warming Siberia up.

I wish it would hurry up about it.

I forgot to post last night.

It was nice crispy frost with a little dusting of snow coming down and no wind, lovely winter weather. More please.

Cold this morning, with a covering of light snow when I got up (about 6AM).

By 8Am it had gone.

By 8:30 it was snowing, lightly, again! Not laying now, though as the ground appears to have warmed enough to repel any advances from the white stuff.

Light snow this morning but it didn't settle (in fact the roads seem dry). I'm going to have to rethink my Easter Monday ride though as there's little chance of the current snow inland melting and I don't think riding over Hartside Pass and Caldbeck Common is going to be sensible really :(

Woolly, you should have been here all winter not galavanting round the Kiwi summer. Most of us are getting fed up to the eye teeth of the cold, damp and snow because we want to be back out on our bikes.

It is even snowing down here on the flat dampish bit of Somerset where I live (not the really flat really damp bit).
We're not supposed to get snow.  :-[

To be fair, this year has been quite dry in this part of the world. Bloody cold though.

Our weather station, whose web page DNS is currently buggered, shows mean temperatures of 4.7°C for Jan, 3.8°C for Feb and 3.9°C for March. Putting that into context, we started recording data in December 2010 and the coldest month by mean temperature during 2011 and 2012 was Feb 2012 at 4.8°C.

The following table shows the number of days the temperature ventured above 10°C for the past 3 years

I haven't had winter since '92 and as for winter I mean snow for 4-6 weeks or more, crisp snow around 2-3 feet high, months of under -10c. I have only had two white xmases since 1981, there was a weak attempt at a white one in 2011 and the other one was 1981, a good 3-4 feet over 2-3 days :)  The closest to a "winter" since I moved to London in '94 has been a night of -1c with a feeble attempt of snow that is gone before hitting the ground, mainly 5-10c, rain,  grey etc etc.

So having snow that lasts more than 24 hours, with snow that piles up above 5 inches, I even shovelled snow for the first time since '91-92, and I even have had to get some long leggings which I haven't since '94.

Oh and I haven't been on a bike since the 2nd of December 2012 either, so I'm as desperate as you lot to get back on my bike.

But please let this wee boy have his enjoyment just for a moment :)

Those two days were the only ones during which the temperature ventured above 9deg C as well.

Well, that's the first time I've planted potatoes in the snow.

Very light but almost horizontal snow after I had got everything ready to plant, drawn out a trench and about to start putting them in.  >:(
