Lots of snow today on Skye. 

Reminded me how truly wonderful it is to be so far from South end.

Just thought I'd drop in to say how lovely and warm and sunny it is here today - 21°C!

Actually, just like the central heating, I'm testing the thread to make sure it still works for when it's needed...

Our heating has just been pronounced fit for the winter. They did get the gas pressure turned down and apparently we have had a leak in our meter cupboard for sometime. It smells different to British gas so we didn't recognise it.

I was at a union meeting yesterday and one of the stewards in roads was talking at length about a disagreement going on between roads services drivers and management to do with the terms and conditions of the gritter drivers. At one point he said "if they don't get this sorted out before Friday the gritters will be going nowhere and the city will be at a standstill." Yes, apparently there is a forecast requirement for gritters to be used at the weekend - and someone told me today that the local hospitals were gritting this morning.  :o

It does seem to me that the kerfuffle over some non-gritted roads a couple of years back has made councils so fearful that they grit as soon as it goes under 10 degrees.

Probably 10degF in the case of York council (motto: gritting is something that other people do)

Easy answer, they don't!

The excess of berries this year is due to the long wet spring followed by a long dry summer, with no great nasty periods of gales and storms, perfect conditions for trees and shrubs to produce fruit.
