Quite a cold night with a ground frost, but I haven't recorded an air frost since January, and in Jan there were only two, -0.6 and -0.1.

That compares to 34 air frosts in 2013, 24 in 2012 and 9 in 2011.

The temperatures has risen to about 7°C now, and it has been raining this evening.

Started snowing here some time between 3 am and 6 am.  Temps currently ca 1°C. The woman in the village shop said it took her an hour to get there from Cleebourg, which is about 10k away.

Dogs went bonkers when I let them out this morning, wonderful to watch.  Everything has its compensations.

About 2cm here in Stafford....which isn't too bad.

However, the roads have not been gritted: even the main roads*, meaning that my five mile drive to do the weeks shopping and back was quite "interesting." I saw three cyclists out all with the wrong tyres including one who came off on a corner. He was okay and just looked a bit sick of it all.






*This is a bit of a moan.... "they" knew it was going to snow a few days back and yes, it is Christmas but "they" should have had the gritters out doing at least the main routes/bus routes.

Dropped from 8.1C (the peak yesterday, about 11pm) to 6.1C here in Reading in the half hour before I went to bed last night.

Heavy rain until ca 11pm, then it petered out & the temperature started plummeting. Cold & bright now.

A few, several and lots of inches of snow in Huddersfield depending on how high up the valley you are. Station concourse disgracefully icy.

Stopped now.  I shovelled off pavement an hour ago and 15 minutes ago the snow-plough came through and shovelled it all back again. Damned if I'm doing it twice.

Nearly all gone in Liverpool,   it's due to freeze overnight though, so we should have some lovely, slippy roads.
