The 1947 winter didn't get going until the last week of January (or so I'm told).

I asked my dad about this. He said it was a very cold snowy January. He was living in a village in Buckinghamshire at the time, in a corrugated iron house that was later bought by a grandson of H.G. Wells. And two of the village inhabitants were known to all the kids as "The Witch" and "The Witches Sister"

I'm hoping to get up that way at Easter, and every time I've undertaken such a trip the weather has been unspeakably foul. I know that there's still 5 weeks to go, but ....

Cold and windy here in the flatlands, with a distinct possibility of 'wet' being chucked into the mix later.

The weather in Scotland is always beautiful in April.

That is Skye during our trip last year.

Jumped into the limo at Toronto to be told by the driver that they were expecting some rain.

Turned into a bit of an unexpected snow storm - this is the view from my window an hour later - that's a good few inches.

The guy on reception at the hotel did say it's unusual for this time of year, the limo driver was off to swap cars for one with snow tyres...

Changed both our vehicles to snow tyres over the last 2 weeks, and was glad of it on the drive to Edinburgh today. The A90/M90 was distinctly wintry, and I was struggling to stand up in the car park of The Horn cafe where I stopped for breakfast.

Came across an overturned horse-box near Kinross around 09:00.
Was still causing an M90 northbound closure hours later on my way home.
Horses got out OK, according to news.

I do strongly reccomend winter tyres in northern Scotland.

I put winter tyres on my car on Friday, not yet on Mrs MV's. Paid dividends last year: we got out every day.

Still warm here; not even had a real frost yet, just a little bit of ground frost on Thursday or so
