We've never done Father's Day in our family.  It's just a made up day given to us in the spirit of commercialism.  I made my views quite clear to the boys when they were young and they have always respected them.

The only "Day" is what we used to call Mothering Sunday - now called Mother's Day.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

I phoned my dad earlier to apologise for not knowing, but he hadn't known either. He's biking in Shropshire and he's far more upset about the weather.

It doesn't bother me at all, Basil, it just amuses me. I quite like them not bothering, to be honest, and I agree about it being a load of rank commercialism.

Well my father is composting in a plot at Doddington Road Cemetery and Vernon's dad is in a box on a shelf so cheap day for us.

Well, I cooked Dad his Sunday Lunch today.

Mum's in Manchester with her Mother and if you think I'm going to let my Father cook me lunch you've never eaten his cooking.  :demon:

Well, both sons have now been in touch - in a sort of "err Dad, I know you don't do this, but..."
Which was really nice and appreciated.  Better than them spending their money on cheap crap cards.

Daughter 1.0 is at school until  the end of term and probably doesn't even know it's Fathers' Day (maybe even unaware of the concept).

Daughter 2.0 is on a battlefields tour in France but left a massive bar of chocolate for me.

I don't approve of funding Clinton's Cards shareholders but I do approve of chocolate on any day.

NB. No children at home=>we went to the pub for lunch (10 miles away!)

Similar here Basil. Probably because that's how we did it when I was a Tiny.

Got a txt from The Girl though, which was nice. And The Boy said "Oops, it's Father's Day isn't it". I pointed out it was just great that he was with me today, helping fettle bikes.

Well, commercialism or not, just got great FD present from the daughter today: a DIY Ploughman's Lunch kit (she knows it's my favourite lunch) – two excellent real cheeses, pickled onions, chutney, some gourmet bread flour (OK, some assembly required!) and – of course – a bottle of beer, Hobgoblin in this case.

Can't wait for lunch tomorrow!

I got home made cards and the latest Spiritualized cd.
My Dad's card is on my desk at work, as I was ill and didn't post it when I planned. He's on holiday, so I've got some slack there I think!

I got a card and some nougat. Got my dad a card and a small pruning knife. He found it odd being given a knife by me as he still has it in its head that that's the sort of thing he should give me. He felt much the same way last year when I did a bike up for him so he could get some exercise after heart surgery.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I find I'm not so good at it as I used to be.
