So will they strip him of his TdF win I wonder?

As UK says:
Quote
Under UCI rules, if Contador is banned, he will also lose his 2010 Tour de France victory. Under RFEC rules, Contador has ten days to appeal against the sentence in Spain. He, the UCI or the World Anti-Doping Agency could also appeal against the verdict to the Court for Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland. However, any appeal to the CAS would take several months and mean that Contador would probably miss this year’s Tour de France even if he is cleared.
It seems to me they have taken their time about reaching this verdict.

If his appeal is rejected he will be stripped of Tour Win.

Its got the legs to run and run this one. Its been a joke in how long it has taken to get to this stage.

The big question is why have they only given him a year.

They've decided.

No doubt he will appeal. But does he get stripped of the Tour win?

After the Landis fiasco, I hope so. >:(

As above, if banned he loses his TdF win under UCI rules.

Thinking about it, he will definitely be stripped of the title - he failed a test during the Tour after all!

Snob for the win:

As far as I'm concerned Contador stole that Tour win fair and square, Slipstream should be as free to market the illusion of their cleanliness as any other cycling team, and if Jeff Novitzky is obsessed with tired relics from the 1990s he should just save the taxpayers a bunch of money and listen to Pearl Jam like everybody else. This is sports, for Lob's sake. Why don't I get to just shut off my brain and watch overpaid freaks like football fans do?

Reading the Danish news, it appears that they wont appeal the ban, but may appeal the start date, which could enable Contador to ride in the Vuelta.

One wonders about guilt despite the protestations of innocence...

Another cyclist under the same circumstances allowed his hair to be tested (dark hair apparently stores Clenbuterol residues well) and was cleared when this showed no deposits.

Perhaps there were other indicators - plasticisers, etc?

He has said he will appeal.

He has to, if only as a face saver.  With no appeal, it may well be deemed to be an admission.

I had to chuckle.  My irregular meat-head forum has articles on the care and feeding of Naughty Substances.  For some reason, the clenbuterol article is also available en Espanol!

It's not all over unless he has proved that he ate contaminated meat, rather than just presenting a hypothesis. He certainly hasn't mentioned it to date. If he has no proof this will go to the IOC, and the UCI will have to decide if it is comfortable having no credibility whatsoever.

The whole think stinks of shit, even more so with the weaselly-worded involvement of the Spanish leader.

Looking at the Cycling News story, this is exactly what's happening - by overturning the ban for no good reason, UCI lose any credibility they had left.

1) Contador tests positive for Clenbuterol, says it was accidental from contaminated meat, receives ban.
2) Contador appeals, his legal case is: "but I ate contaminated meat!"
3) Apology accepted, all will be forgotten by the first week in July.

But it isn't a UCI decision that is being made, it's from the Spanish authorities.

If he is cleared the UCI could go to CAS to appeal.

I used to be quite into cycle sport, but these days, I've found it helps to regard road racing more as light entertainment.  ;D

Confirmed: Alberto Contador Cleared Of Clenbuterol Charges | Cyclingnews.com

That stinks.  I hope the UCI appeal but I doubt they will, it's in their interests to brush it under the carpet like they have done many times in the past.  I do hope that WADA get their teeth into them at some point.

I don't feel much like watching any professional cycling this year now.

I'm not so sure. I think the UCI will appeal this one. They have to if they want a win/win situation. An succesful appeal will give the appearance of trying to do something. If they appeal and CAS upholds the aquittal, everybody wins (except clean sport), but it won't leave the UCI with much egg on it's face.

As it stands, Contador will stain any of the big Tours he rides this year. From a damage limitation point of view that is probably a worse outcome than a ban.

The UCI have already said they'll appeal if they don't agree with the severity of the sentence. I don't think they can leave it stand. The Spanish have made a political decision and know it will be contested.
