You know everyone, I watched this last night, and I am totes so bimbo-brained and stupid that I had no idea of any of the following:

1.  Acquisition of expensive goods requires money
2.  Tree surgery makes little money
3.  Encouraging 8-year-olds to dance like porn stars can be damaging
4.  Building on greenbelt requires planning permission
5.  Interviewing small children during school hours tends to indicate that they are not in school
6.  Constantly talking about wanting to keep themselves to themselves AND an hour-long feature about how unwelcome a non-gypsy spouse is made didn't suggest to me one little bit that this was incompatible with also wanting to be 'accepted'
7.  That factors (1) and (2) combined is sometimes indicative of criminal behaviour on the side

Also, I keep my head shut in a dark cupboard at all times and never read the news, and therefore I had no idea at all about allegations of legal aid fraud, benefit fraud, violence, or side effects of building without planning permission.

I was utterly unable to recognise any of these important features and make my own mind up about what I was seeing on the telly.  Thank you, Clandy, for opening my eyes.  :-*

I'll bet you have no idea about the off-side rule either.

*flutter*

Oh god, isn't it something about, like, if someone throws me a handbag in Primark (a pink one) then I can't go round the woman in the queue in front of me without catching my purse first?

Or is it more like a player in an attack position can't take the ball when they are between the goal and the last defence player?  ('Scuse netball terms.)

Toontra, that's kinda what I meant...

As I thought.  I was just expanding for those who hadn't seen the programme (and him at his "surgery").

I know it's not a rule, it's a law. Football is played according to The Laws of the Game, not the rules.  :smug:

Its all fairly irrelevant, from what I saw the idea of the dresses is to make the female as unable to move as possible.

I know this is probably not PC, but I kept thinking "knitted toilet roll cover"

That's because they are not Romany. They are Irish 'travellers'.

What does that matter?  They're still a distinct racial group, against whom discrimination is unlawful.

So pointing out that they do not look like Polish Roma because they are not Romany is discrimination is it? And since when was enforcing the law 'discrimination'? The law in this country applies to all equally.

Those working in law are plagued with people asking stupid and largely rhetorical questions, who then get annoyed when they get an answer they don't like.

Did I mention my fee, by the way?  ;D

In a lawyer's life there are no stupid questions, only people willing to pay money for stupid answers.

Legal aid has meant that so far I've mostly been able to avoid them.  That's about to change.

Clandy was responding to my comment that they do not look at all like the Polish Roma, not making a point about racial groups. If they were Roma they would presumably bear some resemblance to other Roma, but if they're Irish travellers they're unrelated (except by coincidence of sharing the heritage of a nomadic lifestyle).

I've just watched the first episode of the first series and it was all about Irish travellers. I thought it would be about Roma too, but certainly not that episode.
