I’m ambivalent, and will have it a few times a year. There’s almost a jar a week in the shopping for Mrs Dan though.

When I was tiny, my Mum fed me on Weetabix, hot milk and Marmite.  It must have been her Crool Nurse training wot dun it.

In case anyone has missed the information, Marmite XO is available again in Mr Tesco's Emporium! Got 2 jars today, already had 2 Marmite XO sandwiches!

I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Does that marmite taste strong as I used to remember?

Yes, but it is a lot smoother than the regular variety. (In my opinion anyway! )

Has the marmite taste changed or is it me?

I have always found that the taste and consistancy of Marmite has variation.

I suspect this is driven by the source of their raw materials.

I have been trying Mr Morrison’s ersatz Marmite.

It reminds me of the Marmite XO pictured previously, being darker and stronger in flavour than normal Marmite. It is also rather cheaper.

I have instructed Mrs F (who is in charge of placing our weekly order with Mr Morrison) to make this my usual yeast extract.

Rules for marmite on toast...

Well toasted, white bread.
Butter immediately after toasting.
No dipping butter knife into marmite.
Thinly apply marmite, while toast still warm.
Enjoy asap.

Anything else?   ;)

Anything else?  Yes.  Yes, there is.

Am I imagining this, or was there once a TV ad for the stuff that said something like, "Spread it nice and thin, you'll be amazed how quickly you'll acquire the taste for it."

Yes folks, it's that good.

Spread it nice and thin

The brother of an old girlfriend didn't so much have Marmite on his toast as have toast on his Marmite. Unless he kicked that habit, I dread to think what his blood pressure is like now.

Twiglets are strange, they don't taste particularly nice, but if there's a nearby bowl of them at a party they exert a curious magnetic attraction, and you'll find yourself stuffing them your mouth while thinking these don't taste that good. Then you'll eat some more. You don't know why, but you will. It's a strange compulsion. It's not even just me, I've seen other people doing it. You can see the look the look on their face. Why am I chewing a mouthful of dry twigs? Then they reach down for more. You want to get rid of radioactive waste? Paint it on Twiglets, host a party.

I don't care enough about Marmite to love it or hate it. It's vaguely salty and mostly pointless. If anyone tells you it's full of vitamins, well, yeah, they would. Make sure you love them first.

Mrs B returned from the shops with Marmite Truffle flavour. I doubt that it has real Truffle in it.
Umm, bit different.  Not great.
I like Marmite to taste of Marmite.

I find Stilton cheese is similar. I can't say that it has a pleasant flavour, but it's a really interesting one. I normally only buy it at Christmas, and it doesn't last long.

If you've ever had the experience where the marmite is just a little too sticky and your toast surface starts to break up while spreading - I can confirm that Tesco Yeast Extract version is a lot 'easier' to spread, much less viscous - and taste seems the same...

Should IGMC?  ;)

The Lidl and Aldi versions are also easier to spread.
