Don't know if it's already been posted
This guy Rockett Rides (http://www.rockettrides.com/) has just done LE-JoG-LE in 5d 21h!
-
That's just amazing. And I love the comment on the blog - "just crossed the Severn - NOT FAR NOW!"
-
<grump>
I've flicked through a few pages, and nowhere does he state the actual record
I will attempt to break the record of cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats and back, by starting on the 21st of August, 2010.
aaaaargh!
-
The RRA (http://www.rra.org.uk/) don't have a listed record for LEJOGLE.
-
A bloke called I think Robin Simpson was trying to break the record for lejogle in 2009 but failed despite using a motorbike to draft behind
There was some discussion then on what the record was etc
The consensus seemed to be that the then current record holder was Bobby Brown in 6 days 20 hours. Good write up here:

Jeez Louise! What do you get if you cross Clark Kent with a pedalling machine .... ?

Which is a bit odd in some ways. It seems a purer benchmark than 1-way rides.
I think all the end-to-end records were LE->JOG (presumably with tailwinds, which would tend to even out for the 2-way ride).
-
IIRC, longest RRA is 1,000 miles, some 120+ miles longer than either LEJOG ot JOGLE.

David Duffield rode from JOG to LE when he got the trike record.
There may have been others who rode it that way too but ICBA to check in my book.
Almost all of the record rides were LE JOG. Wilco had a headwind for almost half of the ride from LE.

There's a (rare!) interesting discussion along these lines over there:
Timetrialling Forum > Place to Place records (http://www.timetriallingforum.co.uk/lofiversion/index.php?t49991.html)

The RRA (http://www.rra.org.uk/) don't have a listed record for LEJOGLE.
However, the record for LEJOG is: 1 day, 20 hours, 4 minutes and 20 seconds... :o
For some reason this just sounds wrong.
-
I always thought it was 44 hours and 4:20?
-
Perhaps you two could sort this out off-thread and report back with the result?
;)
-
OK Boss.
-
I think the two positions are irreconcilable.

It's correct. Gethin Butler in September 2001. I remember hearing the traffic report on Radio 2 before going to work that there was a delay in Scotland due to, "Some kind of bike ride." I never knew at the time, but it was Gethin's End to End record ride. His first 24 hours was a RRA record too, he had a good tailwind and his first 100 miles took about 4 hours.
He went on to take the 1000 mile record too.

There looks to be a busy schedule of LEJOGLE record attempts this year.
First, on April 2nd Chris Hopkinson will start his attempt (http://www.timetriallingforum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=73769). He "shall be scheduling my attempt to take at least a day off of the current World Record, going under 5 days!" Current predictions are that either he will succeed, or else he will fail due to being weighed down by his massive lights.
Then on June 23rd Tim Clark will start his attempt (http://lejogle2013.co.uk/index.html). He's aiming for a round five days, though he might have to round that down if Chris is successful.
Let the ultra-distance insanity commence!

...and he's off.
Chris 'Hoppo' Hopkinson started at sometime around 10am this morning (details are sketchy but his 'we're underway' tweet was at 10:25), and he's now approaching Bodmin, which I make to be about 55 miles in a little over 3 hours. I wouldn't like to be attempting a record so early in the year after the awful spring we've had, but good luck to him! Live tracking is here (http://www.teamhoppo.co.uk/live-tracking/)
-
Cheers for the heads up Bunburs.
I think he's doing it as preparation for RAAM, which I have heard he's going for again and it might be this year.
-
Yes he's doing RAAM this year and yes he's doing this as prep.
Talking of RAAM, Brian Welsh was going to be the other British solo entrant this year but he's dropped out due to lack of funds :(
-
Blimey, cross/headwind all the way up, might turn into a headwind by the time he's halfway back down. My money would be on the June guy.

RAAM is bloody expensive. Wilko talked a little bit about it at the Audax AGM and he came up with the same minimum cost as me without us two ever talking about it, at least £20,000.
If it was cheap, I'd have a go myself!
Hoppo isn't as talented as Wilko (well, who is? I can only think of a handfull) but Hoppo is good at getting publicity and sponsorship. Everything about Hoppo is loud, even his hair colour. It amused me at the Mersey 24 last year when even his support car was a very loud Subaru driven by Soldiers built like brick shit houses.
