It sounds a bit churlish to put this here, but I have seen the last of younger daughter for 5 weeks: took her to Heathrow this a.m. whence she buggers off to Peru until 3rd September.

I'm off until mis-September and even then I'm hardly back on again.

At the moment there is no desire for a new bike.

Night before last I thoroughly fouled up a wheel after replacing two broken spokes (the wheel wouldn't even roll through the brake), and had to borrow my wife's bike to ride to work yesterday.

Last night I tried again, and this morning the wheel rolled smoothly all the way to work. Phew!

Yep, as I'll get some of it back through the Cycle Scheme.

More good news: I was just given a little bonus for my current project! That'll pay for the new pedals...  :D

I've had an email from my daughter, who spent the night with a family in Lima. Later today she takes the white-knuckle bus ride from Lima to Huancayo. The weather in Huancayo is bloody cold. With a population of nearly half a million and at an altitude of over 10000 feet, I wonder if there's a bigger city anywhere in the world which is so high?

Edit: yes - La Paz.
Elevation    3,640 m (11,942 ft)
Population (2006)
 - Total    1,250,000 (2,005 est)

Bloody hell!

I hope she didn't read "Random Acts of Heroic Love" before she went, or she won't want to get on the bus....
