Title: New toy(s) - machines with blades
Post by: Pancho on 07 June, 2008, 03:27:59 pm
I have just spent all morning and afternoon playing with my new Stihl strimmer/hedge-trimmer/pruner/brush-cutter. The pruner is basically a chainsaw on a 2m pole. It is an uberweapon.

It is utterly superb. Thanks for the rec, rae.

I am surrounded by dead, dying and decimated vegetation. I'm going out now with my industrial sprayer and 250 litres of sodium chlorate. Take that, nature! Mankind wins!

I'm paying the price now. I'm knackered an aching all over. I think I've contracted vibration whitefinger and weedkiller poisoning all in a single day.

If I survive the night, there'll be more vegetative murder tomorrow.

If you don't survive the night, can I have first dibs on your new toy?

Well, I'm alive if somewhat blotchy.

Have not had the nerve to try the chainsaw on a stick, yet.

Only just seen this....glad you like it.   Did you get the combi, or is that lot all made up of separate machines?    I suppose I should have warned you that hedge cutting tools and polesaws generally require significant shoulder development, which hurts in the early stages.

The chainsaw on a stick is pretty benign - the main trick is not to dig the chain into the ground when you are starting it.   You need to keep the chain very sharp.
