They do seem to make arbitrary  changes for their own purposes.

Apparently without bothering to think about them. I bought back a bottle of gin the other month without issue. I didn't know it would even be an issue, it's in my case. How bizarre.

I get the impression it is more about consumption during the journey and unruly passengers rather than importation limits.

which, knowing the behaviour of a minority of holidaying Brits, might be justified. :(

Seems reasonable to me.  Being stuck on a train - well, any form of transport - with a group of rowdy drunks is unpleasant even when it isn't scary.

Yes, but while I'm not allowed (cheeky mojitos aside) on TfL, they don't demand I empty my bags of booze before I get on. You can go to the bar anyway (though it's not been the same since they stopped selling Duvel). Despite being a regular Eurostar traveller, I can't say I've witnessed the sort of drunken debauchery that seems de riguer on Ryanair and the like.

And there, I suspect, lies the clue...

Flying out of Detroit last week, my duty free was secured in a bag with a ticket on, and I was presented with a matching ticket. I was reunited with my booze only after passing through the boarding card check at the gate, on the airbridge to the aircraft.

The whole point of Eurostar is that it's a train and other than rather basic security, it's not a fucking plane where the mere presence of 100 ml liquid is a mega-terror threat unless, of course, it's in different bottles, in which case it's OK.

Maybe they are getting ready for no deal Brexit. They’ll limit the amount of currency you can take next.

The head of the committee which dreamed this up must be a MCC member and have therefore copied the alcohol restrictions into Lords Cricket ground

(although that might only be two cans of beer or one bottle of wine - they didn't check my friends 'Ribena' on entry the other year)

Eh? Lord's is the most enlightened ground when it comes to test matches. All other grounds (Oval, Edgbaston, etc) forbid any alcohol being brought in for Test matches.

Most ban BYOB for T20 matches but allow it for county games.

England tests at Lords have an alcohol restriction but I do agree they are more enlightened than most.
