What is this plant?

Going over now, was in bloom in May, about 10 inches tall in total.

Yes, my neighbour has some and when I used Google Lens it told me bistort too.

Thanks for the replies, it's short for a bistorta but your suggestions pointed me to persicaria affinis which looks pretty much the same as the plant

Bit confused as it flowered in spring and has now definitely gone over.

Common name is lesser knotweed. Persicaria affinis. (I think from the photos. Can’t make my mind up based on the photo) Makes a wonderful ground cover.

I use this in many clients’ gardens.

There's another persicaria with long arching habit, red leaves, I got one from the Bishop's garden in Norwich.
