Not a Christmas Friday Night Ride - 11th December
« on: 29 October, 2015, 06:47:41 pm »
As posted on CC, but repeated here for anyone who doesn't have dual nationality and likes night rides.

Yes folks, it's time for another unofficial night ride. Except this time it's not going to the coast although there is some water, and it's a bit before Christmas, and it ends in London. It is on a Friday night though and we do stop at an airport.

In a change from the usual things I've done in the past, it's 70 miles of rolling roads from Cambridge to London.

Departing Cambridge train station at midnight on Friday 11th December, and then weaving the light fantastic on the groovy cycle paths round the hospital before heading out into the dark and zooming through quaint little villages which seem vaguely familiar before hitting the bright lights of Stansted Airport for a halfway stop at McDonalds.

Suitably refreshed, we'll then head south-west and drop down the Lea Valley before navigating the mean streets of London to end up at Liverpool Street Station for breakfast (and a traditional beer if applicable).

Usual caveats apply: It's not a race and we'll stop for re-groups, and in the event of the appearance of anything like monsoon rain, heavy snow, ice or the 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse then I'll cancel.

There are numerous trains to Cambridge, and tickets from London are available from £6. Feel free to bling yourself & your bike in Christmas stuff.
