Who is going to Mildenhall?
« on: 17 August, 2009, 11:32:54 am »
Is anyone else from this forum going to the Mildenhall Rally this year?

Its been a few years since I last attended this event.  Last year was the Wild Wales Challenge, so maybe I should go East to Mildenhall this year instead of West to Wales.

Me thinks that I should go out and buy myself some camping gear.

I'll be there, not sure whereabouts I'll be camping yet as I believe the site is full and I didn't get the form off in time.
Will either put the bivvy bag next to someone's tent or use the site up the road.

Yep - cycle camping as always.

I always feel people who drive and camp are cheating! It is after all a cycle rally  :P
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

Is that 'camping' as in falling drunkenly asleep on the picnic tables?   ;) :P

Marj & I will be there. We cannot tow the caravan using the tandem so we will be cheating & using the car/caravan combo. :demon:
As a form of penance I shall be taking the fixed gear bike.

I'll be there for the start and finish of the 200km audax on Saturday, then I believe our Sunday club run is planning to come over to watch some grass track.

Room will be found for you on the Fell Club pitch should you want a spot.

How is using a fixed on the flat Fens a penance?

Have you ever pushed a 74" gear for a 100km against a 30mph headwind across the fens?  :demon:

Hmm... are those my knees I can smell burning?

I love those people who think cycling on the Fens is easy 'cos its flat.

I had a pig of a day yesterday, as the ride back was into a headwind.  In places I was reduced to about 7 mph thanks to the 'breeze'...

I rode out to Hertfordshire and then Gamlingay, Fenstanton yesterday.

Dunno what speed I dropped to climbing up to Barkway then out into the headwind over the ridge, on fixed.  Suspect it was >7mph purely out of not wanting to grind to a halt and fall over.  ::-)

Fixed on the flat can be awful - as you can be in the wrong gear for the whole day, rather than for a few moments on every undulation.

There were some really strong winds yesterday.

I got a headwind all the way back - but I hadn't had a tailwind on the way out...  >:(

I have noticed that when you are not attending these events(first York & now Mildenhall) & have no need of CAKE your attitude is less than complimentary.
I have previously suggested that your CAKE privelages might be jeopordised.
Please regard your CAKE licence as now endorsed with 3 points. :P

Let me suggest that the first thing your appeal should contain is the correct spelling of my higher authority's name ;D otherwise you may have a further 3 point endorsement ::-)
