We have had mostly very strong and unhelpful winds. Yesterday was am epic adventure through wonderful countryside culminating in the conquering of Fleet Moss, all 1925 feet of it. Our descent was somewhat retarded by a monstrous hurting sidewind, visibility down to ten metres, darkness,  untrustworthy brakes, Mrs. Wow's asthma and steamed up spectacles. We walked the steep bits.

Goodness.  Fleet Moss is tough even on the best of days.  Glad you defeated it.

Walking a bike downhill is a soul-destroying experience. Hopefully today was better (at least, after you turned off the Garsdale road at the Moorcock).

The westward section to The Shut Moorcock  was depressingly slow into a monster headwind. However, the descent from Ure Head to Kirkby Stephen is one of the most tandem-friendly stretches of road I have experienced. A most exhilarating run!

You guys have had a real trial with the Wind - right from day 1.

I hope it turns to a favourable direction soon!

The forecast predicts a lull tomorrow, which is just as well, because we are doing the stretch from Kirkoswald to Dumfries, most of which is exposed B road north of the Solway firth.

That was a magnificent, cloudless 58 miles across remote Dumfries And Galloway. Need food.

On account of the bad weather forecast we decided to go to Ardna point yesterday so we completed the ride. This was just as well because I slipped on some steps and buggered my knee. We are now on a bus with the tandem in the hold, heading for Fort William.

On account of the bad weather forecast we decided to go to Ardna point yesterday so we completed the ride. This was just as well because I slipped on some steps and buggered my knee. We are now on a cup with the tandem in the hold, heading for Fort William.

Sorry to hear about your knee, Wow, but glad to hear you completed first.

Hope that cup isn't too uncomfortable, and that they let you change to a bus soon ;D

I'm sitting on the prom at Fort William waiting for our pals to arrive. The clouds have lifted and it's trying to be a sunny day. I can see some snow on a peak to the north, which may well be a munro.

We are involved in the biggest nightmare train journey ever. We set off at 11.40 and are stuck at Newcastle, awaiting the last train to London. It gets there after midnight.

Oh bugger wow, that's not what you needed!  Hope it all works out.  East Coast line has been all over the place the last couple of months.  Some bugger keeps nicking the cables, apparently.

there was a train / person issue somewhere between p'boro and st. ives earlier today, so all the east coast -> london trains will be shite, I'm afraid.
