On the ferry to Harris. Weather still fine but we can't see the Cuillins today.

The wind has been no problem today. But that road along the east side of Harris is just magnificent. Everyone should ride it at least once. We could still see the Cuillins, even though they were more than 50 miles away. Also the Torridons, which were a similar distance.

An excellent meeting with the redoubtable Windy yesterday. We consumed ale and sat outside at the Loch Erisort inn.

Scotrail have conceded that our bike reservations were cancelled as a result of an "administrative error". We will be met from the ferry in Ullapool and taken by taxi to Aberdeen, where the sleeper leaves at 9.45. Will the Pingus be available for a pint?

Great day yesterday riding with the 'Wowbagger' group from Bo Glas to the Loch Erisort Inn. Had a couple of bottles of Hebridean Ale in the Loch Erisort Inn then said goodbye and headed home.

I'm assuming they found their accommodation in Leurbost OK (croft #77 - the numbers are not in order along the road, they are in the order in which they were built).

A colder day to day, overcast and gusts upto 40mph expected this afternoon - but north easterly so the wind should be on their tails for most of the day.

Frances and I have very fond memories of that road.  We also went down to Rhenigidale and spent two nights at the hostel there, walking to Tarbet along the coast and back on a bike rest day, before heading back on up to the main road.  Absolutely wonderful.  So happy you have fairly decent weather for it, if a bit windy. (It's absolutely poo down here).

We have just learned that the Olympic Torch will be visiting Aberdeen on Monday evening. I would imagine that the city centre will be cordoned off to keep away any undesirables. I doubt very much that Scotrail have taken this bijou factette into consideration :demon:

Does Dundee on the Tuesday. For a moment I thought we would meet on the train - I'm getting the sleeper down on Tuesday night. Any londoners fancy breakfast on Wednesday before I amble to my 9.00 meeting at the Wellcome Collection?

I have managed to pick up a stinking cold. I am not looking forward to today's ride - 40 miles of drudgery into a brisk headwind.

Scottish headwinds have magical healing properties.  It will blast the cold from your body.
Healing thoughts on their way, too.  It will be an excuse for hot toddies at the end.

Thank you Jane! I'm feeling better already.

The wind seems to have dropped a little but, get this: we have spent ten days in the Outer Hebrides and seven of them have been unbroken sunshine. The only reason I have put my waterproof on has been to keep the wind out.

The weather is perfect again this morning. :smug:

You're in the wrong part of Cumbria - cloudy but dry here :)

Don't head off in the direction of Brampton then unless you've packed your cape!

(but it is starting to look a little brighter now)

I think we I was breathing in more water than air yesterday riding between Manchester and Morecambe. That FNRttC was the wettest I have ever been on a bike.

At least it wasn't cold though :)
