I'm currently in the daft position where I can now drive, but no chance of cycling for a while yet :(

I'm still hoping to be riding and leading this, but it would be nice to have a back up plan with another cat-herder or two if I can't. Any volunteers? ;D

The flip side is that if I can't cycle, there's more scope for adding a coffee/tea stop somewhere like the top of Greenhead and to have a support vehicle :)

Having purchased a lift from Mr.Branson I'm committed to riding & don't mind helping to get other riders lost ;)

;D

I'm hoping to ride as well and I (vaguely) know the way.

It may transpire that all bike spaces are taken on one's preferred train if tickets are required at a relatively late moment in time.
just saying :)

Of course this is immaterial to those not using trains to attend

Is this ride still on? ... no posts for a while, i know the original leader is now recovering from injury, which put a slight dent in da plan

I don't think i could manage whole route with that amount of climbing so i was thinking of trying to meet you 20-30k in - Which would miss out a load of hard climbing at start.

It's ok, we wait at the top of the 2 climbs for everyone to regroup. Last time we had an impromptu astronomy lesson at the first and a chat with a policewoman at the second.

I don't know who has taken on the mantel of ride leader, but I would guess it is still on.

I am most deffo up for this now, and not leaving it til the last minute to get tickets (like last time).

If no one else steps forward to lead, I will take that role, are you ok with that, Mcshroom?

Sorry I've been a bit remiss getting back to this thread.

The ride is still on, and I'm happy to do any arranging/organising. I don't thik I'll be able to lead the ride (though I can now put in a decent time on the turbo leaning on my broken arm so there's a slight glimmer), so I'll probably be sag waggon/coffee stop.

After the Morecambe FNRttC I decided not to approcah people about leading a ride for a bit, but if you, or Andrew Br above or anyone else would like to lead the ride I would be very grateful :)

I'll update the OP when I'm at home tonight with the riders and info.

Hmmm.... d'ya need a sidekick in that sag wagon (to helpfully make a total of two good arms and therefore increase the flask-opening powers)?.

Ooh, a sag wagon. Can it tow us up that horrible hill? (I think I'll bring some gears this time.)

I've been a bit slack planning wise, and have only just looked at the trains...

I think I could buy a bike for that much  >:(

Decision has been made.  I shall be ABROAD at that time.

I may still head up North toward the end of September, but that's a discussion for other threads.

Right, OP updated. Can people check that I haven't either confused what you said or missed anyone of the list please? :)

For those of you with dual memberships, there's now a thread over on Cyclechat for this ride as well :)

I'm seeing the physio tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have more of an idea of when I can get back out riding.

So... if I'm joining the party in the sag wagon (I do need to check a few calendar things in case of conflicts but it actually might work) where would I need to get to and when?

The ride sets off at 11pm (ish) from Carlisle, so that's easiest to organise, but I'm happy to work round what's easiest for you.

Looking at last year's track we made the top of the climb out of Greenhead at about 1am, so I'd be aiming to be there a little before that to set up for a coffee stop. I could probably get over to Newcastle Central and back in that time (takes about 1h15 to get from Carlisle to Newcastle) if that was easier.

I do need to look at this sag waggon thing as otherwise there's going to be a lot of sitting about waiting. :-\

As for getting back. We'll be in Newcastle. I may be able to offer a lift back to York if I go and visit my parents straight after.
Just realised I'll be heading west as I'm singing in Millom on Saturday night.

Morning all,
I’m back in the UK now after a few months away at sea and very glad to see that this ride is still on.
I was wondering whether anyone would object if my daughter came along? Although only 13 years old she already has a couple of 100k rides under her belt and we will probably use the tandem anyway.

If we are using the tandem I’ll have to persuade Mrs B to drive us across to Carlisle in the van, although all three seats will be in use I’ll have room for half -a-dozen cycles in the back. If anyone wants to avoid the risk of not being able to get their bike on the train get in touch. I’m in Fawdon BTW.

Can't see a problem with that, other than not being allowed to drink in the pub by Carlisle station  :D

Can you put me down as a possible? I'm supposed to be working Saturday morning, but I reckon I can probably make it back in time (though I may not be the best of adverts to potential new students' parents if I'm wandering round in my cycling kit...)

Done - push the clothing as part of the uni's 'environmentally considerate ethos' or something, or give me a change of clothes to carry over to the finish in the car :)

mcshroom, I'm afraid I won't be riding this.  I have an injury and am resting it completely.  Sorry :(
