Obituary and funeral guide/donations here: https://www.funeralguide.co.uk/obituaries/121978
It would be good to see forummers coming along in numbers.
-
I don’t do funerals generally (although I will be at my father I laws funeral on Friday for Dr B), but my thoughts will be with you and your family on that day.
-
Would be good to see other YACFers there. Funerals are much underrated IMO - everyone only says nice things, there's usually food, and you don't have to bring a present.
-
Won't be coming, but I wish you and your family the best.
-
I plan to be there.
-
Sadly we will be unable to make the trip but Dez and yourselves will also be in our thoughts when we visit Greenhaven just outside Rugby on Saturday 4th to pay our respects to a dear friend who passed away recently. Family and friends are holding a little remembrance ceremony and planting an oak pole on her grave to match the one on her son's grave which is nearby.

Thanks for that, I would like to join but I'll be a bit late as I have a student booked in at 1 for a short chat.
-
Apologies. I’ll be on a train.
I had problems watching a funeral live stream on obitus in February 2023, and similar problems watching the playback later.

Apologies for hijack!
I’ll be thinking of you all.
-
Thanks for the warning, I'll give it a try and if it's terrible I'll not stress about it. I agree it's unacceptable for a funeral livestream to be poor, it MATTERS.
-
I think it’s an Apple/Safari/OS/Buffering problem.
Might have been resolved with updates.
I am no geek!
-
I am unable to be there tomorrow, Peter.
Thinking of you.
-
I'm also unable to travel down, but will be thinking of you all.
-
Hope it goes as well as it can.
-
I can’t make it. I will be thinking of you.
-
Sympathies, from afar.
-
And from not quite so afar.
-
Best wishes.
-
Hope it all goes well. Best wishes from us.
-
I'm sorry I can't be there. Big hugs to you, Jan and the family.
-
Nice eulogies and venue. Sleep well Dez.
-
Sorry I couldn’t be there, or watch at the time. Best wishes.
-
I watched a little, thoughts with all of you.
-
Watched most (I found one or two of the eulogies difficult to hear).
Farewell Dez.
-
I had no idea that Dez was such an outstandingly talented individual.
RIP Dez.
-
Thanks to Tomsk, RZ and Jurek for coming along today. We had a fair number - lots of family, a few friends. We've got a transcript of the eulogies and I shall ask the celebrant to send me a version so that I don't have to scan the paper copies. The video should be available in a few days and I hope to link to that.
-
It was a nice service. Hugs to Jan & yourself Peter.

Some have said they couldn't hear the voices clearly. There's the recording of the service with a transcript (with suitable mistakes).
-
Seems to display OK, though I’ve had to turn the volume up.
Wonderful service and a great tribute to such a talented and multi-faceted man.
Hoping you are finding strength in these very tough times!
-
I watched the funeral service this afternoon, with the sound up and craptions it was manageable.
Thank you so much for sharing. I am glad I watched now and not mid-work as I was able to focus better today (my day off). I didn't know Dez very well, but this place is partly one of his many positive legacies both big and small. I had not realised Dez was the eldest and I laughed at some of the childhood memories and one with Jon and a ladder. The best funerals are those that make you laugh and cry a bit too.
I continue to send much love the way of Dez's close people. A life very fully and well lived.
-
I think we should be told exactly what was added to the UKIP poster.
-
I can scarcely recall that incident. Dez would still have been living here - I would imagine that it was after an alcohol-fuelled evening. Jon and I invariably had A Lot of Beer. Dez didn't drink alcohol. So he would obviously be the ideal candidate to climb a ladder at 1am.
Edit: I have asked Jon.
And the answer: "RACIST SCUM"
-
Say it as it is, keep it short and sweet! Good for them!

I was hoping for a Hitler moustache on Farage and an enormous CDC spraying him, but that works too.
