What's this thingy on my Dawes Sardar
« on: 26 July, 2020, 06:24:46 pm »
There's a couple of these things on the non drive side seat stay of my Dawes sardar, one just above the brake boss and one way further down.

I know its going to have a dead Obvious purpose but its about the only bit of the bike I've not figured out...

it is a thingumajig for holding brake hose/cable; from your comments I would suppose that you have a model where it will accept rim or disc brakes?

cheers

Ah!  Possibly for a cutlass, or harpoon?  Edit - sorry, I see you've got the answer - but I prefer mine.

Iroiromono telt me through other media channels, the biggest problem with it other than me treating it like Boris treats his numerous bairns is the rear brake mount is IS and well blocked by any rack

tubus rack

Aye, I missed a few words!
"That I can justify the cost of"

I'd love to put Tubus racks on, the generic front racks are an abomination to get on the mounts too, but the cost for something I rarely use...

What is that big silver thing coming out of the bottom of the QR?
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

just a random photo culled from the interweb so I can't be certain but I think I recognise it as a trailer hitch

there are plenty of racks that use a two-bolt fixing at the 'feet'; these are not difficult to modify by fitting offset brackets to them so that they clear the caliper in a similar way.  Of course the rack ends up an inch or so further back which won't suit every rack/bike setup.

For example this rack (Madison summit) is only about £30 and could easily be modified using a little 'o' level metalwork

these brackets

cost about a fiver and are made to fit the TorTec 'epic' rack, but show you what sort of this is required, and indeed might be easy to modify to make fit other racks too.

cheers

Top Tip Brucey, might have a play with something like that myself, though I can see problems if you only have one fixing hole at the bottom leg of the rack, in terms of stopping it gradually rotating downwards

ElyDave. Connector nuts, M5, 10mm length. These will clear the calipers on your S40. How do I know? I've just done that myself.

S40 is OK, I've used long spacers- probably the same thing you are talking about.  There's also the Airnimal to think about.
