I'm writing an essay on Hungarian history post-WW1. All well and good and I have plenty of sources. However, I need to demonstrate how anti-Hungarian feeling persists in the countries that gained territory after WW1 AND a Hungarian minority (although a majority in the areas gained).
I recall reading on the BBC a good while ago about a Hungarian couple who were getting married in Romania (I think), but as soon as they uttered one word of Hungarian, the Registrar stopped the ceremony and walked out. This was probably Transylvania, where many Hungarians ended up on the wrong side of the border after Trianon. Hungary helping themselves to the area during WW2 didn't help matters, either! Anti-Hungarian sentiment can be quite high amongst the Romanians.
BUT, can I find that article? Can I heck, as like! I've exhausted all my options and found plenty of other examples, but I'd really like to use this example, as it shows just how much it affects people on a personal level.
Can anyone else find it for me, please?
If it's any help, the correspondent was probably Nick Thorpe.
