Brown sauce is an abomination designed by northerners to taunt the colourblind.

Okay: brown sauce is an abomination used by northerners to torment the colourblind.

In both Nottingham and Birmingham, the ketchup bottle can generally be relied on to contain ketchup.  It starts getting a bit iffy once you get to Manchester.

The nice couple from across the landing are moving out next week.   They aren't sure if they are going to sell or rent their flat yet.  Whatever they do I'll have to break in new neighbours.  Nightmare,  it could be Bloody Students again  :(

I got into the habit as a PhD student of not drinking the last bit of any mug of drink. We had an urn in our (northwest London) tea room which built a phenomenal agglommeration of silt like particles. These woudl be well dispersed when the water boiled and would settle into a layer thick enough to fossilise small rodents anda few lost visiting professors at the bottom of the cup.

Southampton water is vile. London water is hard but is chalk, not limestone so a different sort of hard ('you spill my cuppa, mate?')
Dundee water is soft. SW london water does give a nice cup of tea given the right blend (but then again I grew up on that).

Sorry, I CAN'T let this one go.

Depending on your belief system, the Deity of your choice created Porcine creatures in order that they could give Bacon to mankind. The Deity of your choice offered up this creation to compliment their earlier creation of HP Sauce. The Deity of your choice realised that bacon and HP Sauce slapped between two opposing slices of bread (roll, sandwich, baguette- it matters not) were the pinnacle of gastronomy.

Other Porcine products are a happy bonus.

Here endeth the lesson.

If your belief system is such that a Deity does not exist, common sense and evolutionary experience indicates that bacon and HP Sauce slapped between two opposing slices of bread (roll, sandwich, baguette- it matters not) were the pinnacle of gastronomy.

Ketchup is for sausages in bread (or fish and chips).

It's cold

I have a cold (either that or I have developed an allergy to our cats)

It's cold

I'm tired

It's cold

I have shed loads of work to get through

Did I mention it's cold and I am tired?

It's that professional, caring approach that really shines through. I've noticed it at home.

I get back, limping through the door. Do I get sympathy?

"I had an 89-year-old patient today. We sawed her leg off with a butterknife, stuck a wooden one on and had her walking within 10minutes. She didn't half grumble so we dosed her with a single aspirin and told her to get home, we needed the bed for someone else.
So what's wrong with you?"

If you want sympathy it's £12 an hour net.

Rail replacement busses.

Who gives you the buss? Is it someone attractive? Or a stubbly-chinned railway employee with bad breath?

However nice the person, I can't see the value of it as a replacement for a train. It might be pleasant, but won't get me where I'm going.

An electrical engineer, obviously.

The busses were replacing rails not trains though ;)

True, but it still won't enable me to travel. Trains need rails, not busses. That soft & potentially delightful contact is bloody useless for running a line of linked steel-wheeled vehicles on.

Anonymous and possibly long since departed colleague.  Slapping a public modifier on a method within an internal class in a DLL project is a truly shite way to "make it modular" and isn't going to work if someone needs access to the method from another DLL.  Oh and using a dataview and expecting others to intuit the table column names (or spelunk through the damned /damnable  code) because otherwise there'd be "too many parameters" isn't that bright either. You have heard of classes? Or structs? Gits.

Great. Apparently it was my turn for the lurgy just in time for a non-icy, sunny weekend, so no cycling. Marvellous.
