The companies I worked for here in the 70s only ever had plastic seats, ditto the SNCF. Commuting & working in August was bloody.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

I spent 6 weeks of a Californian summer driving round with a similar colleague in a rental with plastic-covered seats.
The mention of plastic seats brings back the pain of sweaty legs in shorts sticking to the vinyl seats of my grandfather's Austin Allegro. Detestable vehicle that was!

Reminded me of sitting in my parents' Vauxhall Chevette, complete with black vinyl seats. Ah the '80s... :-\

Neighbours of ours back then never removed the transportation covers from car or sofa cushions. Ghastly.

Looks like the 55km/h dismount my Etrex did the other day has actually done more than superficial damage. just noticed the 'up' microswitch in the joystick isn't working :(

After leaving a trail of sweat and sunblock up the trough of Bowland the sun came out on Quernmore and I got a bit fried before I could track down more sunblock, but that's not my grumble.

I've just got aftersun on my glasses, it reacts nicely with polycarbonate. Bugger  ::-)

On Saturday I realised I had fallen back into the bad habit of checking my pockets for keys *after* making sure the door is shut properly.

Dont ask what made me realise this :-[

I don't know what it is in sunscreen, but I had a (pre-smart, keyed) phone shed all of the outer plastic coating after use with sunscreen-coated fingers.

A bit of feeling around and jabbing with the joystick seems to have relocated the switch back into somewhere that works. A little tempremental, but pretty good for not having to take the device apart. :)

It works on car paint as well. Ditto hand cream etc.

It's the solvent used in water-resistant sunscreen.

DEET is worse.

I do hope the forecast is correct and it brightens up this afternoon. I've left my bleedin' jacket at home

When I put down my HB bag after climbing the stairs at home my Etrex 20 slipped out of the side pocket, through the railing and plumetted to the hall below.

Unfortunately it landed on some coats and is fine.  I want an excuse to buy an Etrex 30.

Is it just me, or is the music on Steve Shite In The Afternoon really getting more dire by the week

No, Slim Whitman has not, thankfully, fallen into my repertoire. Orinoco Flow by Enya and The Power of Love by Jennifer Rush - the only two 'modern' songs he likes and inflicts on us at the xmas dinner table - also leave my nautical mode of travel unfloated.

Here's where the antiquated prescription system falls apart.

Have telephone consultation with doc, decision is made to renew my prescription. Great. Now how do I get it? I work 25miles away from doctor's surgery. Partner is at work all day. Chemist's online prescription system needs two weeks notice.

It's moderately effective against beasties, too.

I thought it was used to keep biting invertebrates at bay.

Apparently they've rearranged a lot of the content too, so Lt. Col. Larrington (retd.) could not locate half the Stuffs required to Do A Shop on Sunday and had to get me to do it instead chiz.

All I can say is that I've never been attacked by a wowbadger while covered in DEET.

I found the aroma resulting from a blend of 100% DEET and a hard hiking day's worth of sweat is potent enough to keep most things with any discernible sense of smell away. The only notable exception, ironically enough, appears to be mosquitoes. And perhaps my friend's dog, which seems to love the smell of festering ass.
