Very nice indeed! And others in the Cooper range look just as good.

Flat bars, disc brakes and a (?)Nexus hub gear.  I think that qualifies for "sensible bike of the day"

Alfine, not Nexus,, and a little touch of luxury with the saddle.

No dynohub though ...

He would have liked a dynohub and two of his existing bikes have them but it would have needed to be custom built.

My niece is safely home from hospital after acute gangrenous appendicitis. Probably most of this university term written off, but at least that is one ailment that will not reoccur!

Glad your niece is now OK, gangrenous appendicitis is vile. Hope the university are sensible and supportive about her work.

A minor detail ...

Still, it's always nice to have an obvious upgrade path.

We were discussing rebuilding the front wheel with a dynohub over breakfast.
The SHINY rims supplied with the bike have already been discontinued. The bike is an advance 50th birthday present but his birthday is over 4 months away.

I have told him refitting a used bottle dynamo is not very cool...

Thanks (and Clarion). It's her first year, so not as bad as if it had been her final year. Parents are supportive and clued up and will not hesitate to pitch in if they think she is being short changed.

And you'd be absolutely right.

That's a nice looking machine, though - if I didn't already have n+1 lined up I'd be nipping across to the branch of Evans that's within easy walking distance of work ...

(but seriously, if he wants a lightly-used-but-non-shiny 29er disc rim to build up with a suitable hub dynamo, let me know ...)

Thanks for your kind offer. He saw picture of your bikes on Facebook and thought they were cool.
We will order some variety of Schmidt dynohub when the Bandits of Bridgewater have the 36-hole variety he desires and get it built into the existing rims.

The Rosetta spacecraft woke up successfully from 2½ years in deep hibernation, whilst it's catching up with comet 67P/Churymov-Gerasimenko (try saying that half a dozen times when pissed!).

That means that one of my colleagues definitely has a job for the next couple of years, and I need to finish setting our operational servers up. ;D

We've yet to hear exactly what state the spacecraft is in, but we should get that information shortly.  With luck it'll be in exactly the same condition as it was before hibernation.
Actually, it is rocket science.

Congratulations!

Good Luck Boy Wunja, and have a great time. I found it a great experience when I went to the one in Chile in 1999. My advice is take as many photos as he possibly can, and carry a decent number of spare neckers for swaps :)

I'm now free of kidney stones

The exact wording of the X-ray report was: "Patient is clear of kidney stones but also appears to be constipated." - I've never been so happy to be told I've got a case of the stoppies.

Guess that means I'm officially full of shit ;)

Ah ... that'd be a showstopper anyway since my 'spare' rim is 32h.
I'm so used to riding on 32-spoke wheels now that I keep forgetting that Other Spoke Counts Are Available

Pity the SP PD-8 dynamo only appears to be available in 32h - it's very nice (my Tour Divide rig has one, as will my Croix de Fer) and a helluva sight cheaper than a Schmidt.
