I have decided to stop job and flat hunting in Bristol and go back to proper Poland for Christmas and New Year. This is good news not only because it will mean a much smaller phone bill, but chiefly because it is a decision.

Just received a cheque from our previous landlord - for 100% of the deposit on the old house :)

That's apparently (according to legend) the first time anyone's ever done that, across all the houses he owns, across all the decades.  We weren't expecting it.

Had you made lots of improvements?

Today I stopped a house burning down and saved a pensioner. Right place right time. Have now removed cape and reverted to wearing pants on the inside of my trousers.

Well done that man. I hope you had suitable admirers there to witness it.

Only minor ones.  But lots of cleaning and making good decorative damage that we inherited rather than made.

I was pleased at my mending of what looked like significant cat damage to carpets :)

Indeed - although possibly not to witness the underpants putting on and off, which I'm sure it must be tricky to do with dignity.  And although you say 'right place right time' you probably ought to add 'right person right attitude' to that.

It was the house over the road from me. The dotty old chap had slung some hot ashes out of the front door onto the garden, but a load had landed in the pile of stuff by their door, including paint tins, a car battery, a lot of evil plastic tat and a can of petrol! Of all the things to keep by the door...

MiniQ spotted the fire and I ran over, suitably tooled up with a garden broom (a dual purpose tool to tackle the fire and repel their pet Rottweiler!)  The door was half blocked by the fire and the old dude couldnt open the back door so I clubbed the burning stuff away from the house before I spotted the petrol can and then took it a bit carefully! The woodwork round the door and porch was just starting to burn and the smoke alarm inside the house was bleeping away as there was a fair load of smoke inside already.  Lucky escape all round. Unfortunately a bicycle was hurt during the drama :-(

The old chap's son popped over to say thanks earlier. His dad is going a bit senile, but not so dotty that he didn't tell me how much trouble he thought he was going to be in with his son  ::-)

If there are still any YACF badges left, I propose we melt them down and cast them into a medal for Quisling.
