How do they fix?

Alturas won't fit on a Thorn industrial-strength low-rider front rack because the bolts are "proud" of the support bar. That's why the Carradice are on the front.

We have a Tubus Duo and they clip on with no problem.

*peers at a photo of Thorn rack*

I don't see any reason why a back-roller couldn't be persuaded to fit to that - they're a bit more flexible in their adjustability than Alturas, and the hooks stick out further from their runners. I'm sure you'll find yourself in the presence of someone with a set of Ortliebs who'll let you have a fiddle soon enough.

Of course, Alturas are stupidly huge (and hence quite handy for tandems). You wouldn't want them on the front of a bike anyway. Not even a Streetmachine.

This afternoon, Mrs. Wow had her first bike ride since it happened. Only about 4 miles, but it involved Waitrose and 4 very large panniers of shopping on the tandem, total weight about 60lb I think. This is important because it's the first time we've tried Carradice Super C rear panniers on the front, and it worked OK. Handles like a dream.

We are off tomorrow for a two-night camping trip in Suffolk with Woolly & Peli - a bit of unfinished business, you might say! The bigger panniers are an experiment to see how much extra we can fit in for touring purposes.

 Go go Mrs wow :)

Pseud's Corner moment.

In 1981, for my LGSM examination, I played Bach's B♭prelude & fugue from Book 1. I immediately followed a fellow student who had the same piano teacher and who had played the same piece.

After I had finished playing, the examiners at the Barbican asked me if we had the same teacher, because the interpretation we had been taught was such that we played staccato the 4th & 5th quavers of the fugue's subject. The examiners disagreed with this "skittish" interpretation.

I have just listened to Andras Schiff playing this piece on R3 and, guess what...

It may have taken 30 years, but O:-)

The schools district windband were to play the theme from http://www.youtube.com/v/u6vREiRNMFc&rel=1. Whilst the brass and 1st Clarinets blasted out the the main theme 'Dah-dud-da dah da-da-da-Did Dah', the lowly 2nd and 3rd clarinets - of whom I was one - had to pretend to be violins and play 'da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da'. The score was black with slurred demisemiquavers and NOBODY could play it. Our conductor suggested making arrangements with our neighbour to play alternate bars...

It's more than 30 years and I'm still in therapy.

The work health insurance scheme has paid up for my first lot of dental treatment, meaning that I'm £90 up and will therefore have money to spend on unnecessary tat essential bits and bobs at York Rally this weekend ;D

Unfortunately, I've now exhausted my dental benefit for this year ...

I just found one of my two wrist splints, they'd both gone AWOL. It happens to be the less manky of the two. Will try sleeping in it to see if that improves this fairly consistently rubbish armfail I'm experiencing.

What the hell is dental benefit ? I must be getting old , I've never heard of that.
The last time i went to the the dentist was about 15 years ago. It cost me about £1000. I've never been back for obvious reasons.

I managed to exchange the overpriced tickets that the Cheating Bastard Railway employee sold me for correctly-priced ones and didn't miss the train.
