Campag Ergo repair

Anyone  have an opinion about who repairs Ergo levers well and economically? I can only think of Mercian, off-hand.

I've used Mercian, but I had to send the rebuilt Ergos back a couple of times before they got them right.

I don't think I found anyone else who seemed confident enough to strip them down. I've done a couple myself, but I think, like most shops, I found it too much hassle to be worth doing.

Ah. I just found your website. The Italian Cycle Products website has lost a few pages, but I have found some videos of the procedure. I shall give them a ring later to see whether they're still in business, then disassemble one of the levers (I've got through two righthand ones over the years) and see what's up.

My Campags have managed something around 20k miles each, so I don't think that's too bad. Though a fellow club member who's used both says he gets more mileage from STi than Ergo.

I find it a difficult job, and I'm not the only one who has failed to get the knack.  Probably just takes some more practice though.

Some users make them last much longer than others because they change gear less often.  The life is limited by number of clicks rather than number of miles.

I used Italian Cycle Products to service mine, and apart from being a bit greasy when I got them back they were fine.

Someone on old acf (GruB, I think) had said that Italian Cycle Products had closed.  Dunno if this is true, mind.

I have just used a combination of Nutty's website and a youtube overhaul video from Campag. Thanks Nutty - great tip about how to wind the spring at the end. Took me a while to figure out the correct orientation of the g-springs, but about an hour an half over all. Very satisfying to restore the click!

Subject to road test, I think it was a great success!

My gear lever on my right-hand ergo actually broke off 30km from the end of a 300 last Saturday. Anyone have any recommendations for best place to get campag spares?

I eventually got mine repaired by Condor. They've done two right-hand levers for me. Good service.

Just as well; because they aren't repairable, so if they do go faulty you'll have to buy new STIs

Just an update on my broken gear lever. Managed to get hold of a complete lever and used the following to repair the shifter:

A bit fiddly but nice to be able to sort the problem without having to buy a new set of shifters.

My right hand lever has just lost its click. It’s still changing fine, but I understand that this is the sign that fettling is required.

I haven't repaired one for about 5 years, but if the design hasn't changed I am baffled as to why anyone would pay Mercian £50 odd quid for what is a 15 minute easy job.

The Mercian guru, Jeff, retired a few years ago. He was Campagnolo trained in Italy. Mercian’s business is focussed on frame building now, and there is no retail shop.
