Electric fan oven: replace element or thermostat?

The fan oven doesn't seem to be cooking as well as it did. It's 5 years old. I'm not sure whether I need to replace the element or the thermostat.

Thinking it would help to answer the question, I did this:

I turned the oven to max and let it warm up for 20 mins.

At the 240^o setting the light went out when the actual oven temp (measured by a reliable oven thermometer) is only 205^o.

I turned the setting down to 200^o and waited until the light came back on. When the light went off again the temp in the oven was 180^o.

At 150^o setting the light went out at 140^o.

At 100^o setting the light went out at 90^o.

I think the element is working, but the thermostat is faulty.

What do you think?

Interesting. Never heard of this and I wouldn't know where to start. What do you recommend?

The thermostat will look like a stubby thing [img][http://img.hisupplier.com/var/userImages/2011-03/04/zgdqpj_191527964_s.jpg/img] give the ouside of the bit in the oven a clean.
