Electric fan oven: replace element or thermostat?
« on: 18 November, 2017, 11:08:14 am »
The fan oven doesn't seem to be cooking as well as it did. It's 5 years old. I'm not sure whether I need to replace the element or the thermostat.

Thinking it would help to answer the question, I did this:

I turned the oven to max and let it warm up for 20 mins.

At the 240o setting the light went out when the actual oven temp (measured by a reliable oven thermometer) is only 205o.

I turned the setting down to 200o and waited until the light came back on. When the light went off again the temp in the oven was 180o.

At 150o setting the light went out at 140o.

At 100o setting the light went out at 90o.

I think the element is working, but the thermostat is faulty.

What do you think?
What's so funny about peace, love and understanding?

Yes, it sounds like the thermostat.

Clean thermostat.
Interesting. Never heard of this and I wouldn't know where to start. What do you recommend?

The thermostat will look like a stubby thing [img][http://img.hisupplier.com/var/userImages/2011-03/04/zgdqpj_191527964_s.jpg/img] give the ouside of the bit in the oven a clean.
