Can you find my son's phone?
« on: 28 March, 2018, 07:49:29 pm »
#2 son has lost his phone. LG Android something or other. We are pretty sure it's in the house somewhere. When we ring it the call rings until automatic cutoff, there's no ansafone enabled.
It's on silent and appears not to vibrate.

Is there any way to locate it? A small boy with Aspergers is getting a tad distressed...

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

Try Google Device Manager website on a PC, signed into the same account as the phone.

Tried all pockets of clothes he's worn recently but put away? That's where my phone usually is when I've lost it

Are you sure? You need a Google account to install anything from the Play Store. Its difficult to use Android without a Google account.

Also could try a Bluetooth scanner app on another phone. It would give you an idea of how close it is (if Bluetooth is switched on).

You could try ringing it from a landline and listening for the GSM beeee-bedop-bedop-bedop chatter with a de-tuned AM radio as you wander about?

Update. Last Saturday 'er indoors gets a call from Tesco customer services. Not a call centre but the desk at our local store. (#2 son is known to them because every time he's in with Mum he collects all the scan'n'shop handsets and returns them to the racks whilst they smile indulgently.)

'Hi. Is this Mum? Have you lost a mobile belonging to a tween? Sorry but we had to turn it on to see if we could identify who it belongs to.'

Kind of explains why we couldn't find it despite turning the house upside down. Nothing nefarious, I was fearing an astronomical bill but the only calls were the umpteen we'd made trying to find it. Any road, #2 son is reunited with his phone and all is well with the world - provided you squint a bit...
