Percy Ellis history or photos?
« on: 16 June, 2011, 11:03:29 am »
I'm writing up my Dad's memoirs for eventual publication. As an aside to the main topic (a life in the RAF), he mentions that, sometime around 1946, he had made for him a lightweight bicycle by Percy Ellis of Fulham, proprietor of Champion Cycles. It was a Reynolds 531 frame, fixed, in light green, and was used for serious touring all over UK. I'd love to flesh this part of his story out, and if I could get any pictures of a similar bike, that would be great! Does anyone have any information?

I seem to remember the comic doing a piece on Percy, might be worth emailing them?

It's a shame that Google Images is so useless and bizarre for this task.

2017 Edit:  Not too bad now.

Yeah, I Googled Percy Ellis, Champion Bicycles and Fulham (and various combinations) without success! I'll try the comic though, thanks tiermat.

Not a brand I know, though I've looked in the books and nooks & crannies of the interwebs I can think of.

Have you asked the V-CC for help?
Getting there...

I haven't, Clarion - and I have to say I do wonder if my Dad's memory is completely accurate. It is, after all, around 65 years ago! I'll see if I can get a bit more detail from him that might help the search.

Google   National cycle collection and go to the digital library section;
if you arent either a vcc member or friend of the museum there is a fee.
Its well worth joining the vcc for a lot of reasons;good luck!

Thanks very much - I did Google the full address yesterday and dug up a few Ellis press adverts (via Graces Guide), which pleased my Dad no end!

A bit late, but you might find something on this page : http://www.bikejumbles.co.uk/.
 I used to have a couple of other  websides about classic bicycles too, but I seems to have lost some while changing my pc.  :-[ If I find them I will post them here.

Hi - I've just bought a Percy Ellis frame from Hilary Stone, which I think is still posted on his website; he gives some information on Percy Ellis if you type in Hilary Stone and search the section 'road frames pre-1970'. Hope this helps! Cheers, Bob
