I thought that I had ticked the box that stated "No publicity". My cover is blown.
I also had to endure a certain amount of banter for wearing that jersey.

If someone had pointed out to me that this event was only 100 metres short of AAA rating then I might have had second thoughts, but having route checked the bits south of Darlo,I was also looking forward to seeing the bits in County Durham.
I found out that there is a gurt big hill in Ferryhill, but I didn't see the ferry.
With almost ideal weather (a bit of low cloud around Woodland spoiled the view ) this turned into an exceptionally good ride. Because it's not in a national park,Teesdale often gets overlooked but it is a gem of a dale.
The whole route just flows well and the turnout shows that there is a strong demand for audax in the north east. I am sure that visitors from outside the region will have changed their perceptions of what this part of the world can offer cyclists.
Thanks to Deano for organisation,Graeme for valiantly staying sober whilst rooted in the White Bear and Lanternerouge (and friends) for the motor home based catering.

Aye, ta for the route check, Chris!

It's nowhere near AAA points - the AAA man has measured it at 2200 metres, which is 300 metres more than I ever got, but still 5-600 metres short of AAA points. Thankfully.

However, I can, upon request, produce a version which would almost certainly qualify for AAA points, with the added bonus of missing Richmond and Catterick. Fancy route checking it? ;D

Sorry, I must have misheard someone quoting the AAA rating.
If you could coordinate dates with the Army fiiring ranges ,the road acros Feldom is a cracker.

Not far enough

The 2017 version is now live and ready for entries:

http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/17-352/

No route changes despite the requests for extra hills, and I can't promise the campervan control again, but I'll get a friendly face to stamp cards at Appleton Wiske.

There are a few entries for 2017 now, but plenty more space. I'm planning to check the route on Friday to make sure the hills and pubs are still there.

That one between Kirby Hill and Richmond was still there on Saturday. If I haven't sold all my bikes after LEL and if you can guarantee the same weather as last time, then I should be up for it again.

I expect the date will revert to end-of-season before too long...

And it finishes at your favourite Travelodge :D

How could I refuse after that?  Entry submitted.

And my fave Travelodge booked for the Friday night.  £28...bargain (even though now they don't let me take my bike into the room with me)

The route check was lovely, btw. The usual endless skies up Langleydale, and the usual mix of punters at the White Bear (Masham Steam Fair was on):

I know! But I also rode it a week after you lot last November. It wasn't quite as pleasant a day as the event had been.

And the 2017 poster is now available!! I'm pretty sure poor Roger Riviére and Charly Gaul didn't ride the original. But you never know.

See you Saturday (hopefully!)

Is it not 111 that is unlucky, or is that just in cricket?  101 might mean that someone is going to go into a room and disappear ...

Any thoughts on what the A67 inbound to the start will be like at 07:00-07:30 ?  I'll probably join it from Mill Lane so only the last 3-4 km, I'm sure it'll be fine...  ???

Joergen

It'll be fine. There's a cyclepath at the right if you prefer, which would be slightly easier to get into the start, but it takes ages for traffic on the 66 to let you through IME so I just hack along the road.
