York Rally 2017
« on: 13 September, 2016, 08:54:04 pm »
The committee has just had the confirmation from the council that the weekend we would like the rally is free. So York Rally 2017 will be 23rd to 25th June 2017. Hopefully we should have the online campsite booking live in the next few weeks, along with the usual early booking discounts.

In 2017 we will not be clashing with L'eroica as their weekend is the 16th to 18th.

Hope to see a number of you there

We're planning to be there with a presence from the new Touring Cyclist Club   www.touringcyclistclub.org.uk

- and we understand that quite a few of the hundreds of signed up TCC members are planning to be there too.

I have just asked for leave. At the moment, I am working till 2330 on the Friday and starting again at 1330 on the Monday. I have asked for the 21st to 23rd off, which folllows a couple of days off, so, finances allowing, I shall most possibly go up early and pitch at Naburn for a day or two before rolling along to the Knavesmire. I think I know the way....

Looking at the sites, I see Naburn Lock says caravans only, and Millbridge appears to say three night minimum. Local knowledge?

We've stayed at Naburn Lock. They definitely took tents then. Anyway,  yay for leave! We've booked the rally but nothing else yet.

Looking at the map, http://www.poplarfarm-caravans.co.uk/ and http://www.chestnutfarmholidaypark.co.uk/ in Acaster Malbis both appear to take tents. They are next door to one another and close to the village pub, not far from the cycle path, just the other side of the river from Naburn.

I have no connection with either of these and have not stopped at either of them, as I live not far away.

Steph - on the Thursday night we can probably offer a bed in the Den if that helps?

I see we now have a FNRttC from York to Hull that weekend, which may be of interest to forumites with flexible sleep patterns: http://fridaynightridetothecoast.blogspot.co.uk/p/june-23-2017.html

apologies if this is in the wrong section

Swmbo is off on hols for a week, and that means I'm free the weekend of the York Rally. Its one of those things that I've wanted to go to for years, but never got round to it, and as swmbo doesn't ride, its a bit awkward. So Whats it all about then, is it as good as it used to be, what are the facilities like, what are train fares like from, say, London (ones i've seen so far are horrendous)? Any one here going this year, been before, ? hints tips suggestions all welcome . Thanks.

The York Rally thread is in Rides and Touring: https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=99401.0

Website is at http://yorkrally.org/

It's as good as it's ever been while I've been there, and infinitely better than the times it didn't happen.  Expect a social event for YACFish types and you shouldn't be disappointed.  It's not a massive trade show, though there are exhibits from the usual suspects (Spa Cycles, Alpkit, ICE trikes, that sort of thing).

Facilities are a big windy field, with real loos (as well as portable ones nearer the camping area), water, surprisingly decent (if time-restricted) showers, assorted catering vans, that sort of thing.  Marquees to shelter from the rain and eat in.  Various organised rides, racing, etc, etc.

Since the resurrection, the organisers have concentrated on the social/family aspects of the event, which is the right decision IMHO.  If you've ever been to the Mildenhall rally, you'll have the right idea.
