At 700C narrower 28s are as big as will fit.  I happen to have a spare 26" rear wheel and a spare SRAM 9-speed block ... but I think the wheel is ShimaNO.
I reckon it won't be until 2022 that I budget for modifications...

Pretty sure a 9 speed SRAM cassette is Shimano compatible...

Well, that would be a game changer in that I can afford “free”.

After much swear words I utterly failed to swap the wheels around - in fact I needed much swearing to return the original wheel in its place.  This may be due to my experience being generally limited to fixed gear or it could just be that the rear of the trike is so light that it doesn't drop into place.  Is it just me or is there a knack to it?

Aha, turns out
1. Trike is road spaced at rear hub, hence my spare mtb wheel will not fit
2. It’s a tight squeeze anyway

Maybe next winter (if I have to commute) I shall splash out on a road hubbed 26” wheel, snow tyres and mudguards.  Maybe.

I cannot encourage mudguards more on a trike. Whereas your average upwrong might not really notice a damp road for a short trip, a tadpole will cheerfully cover you in any and all water from the front wheels, and probably from behind too. I think we were doing something about aerodynamics, possibly supersonics, or torpedo control systems that day, but this sticks in the mind much more clearly.

...unless you're racing and want to discourage drafting.  DAHIKT.

Based on the weather today I think I have to get some front mudguards.  It helps a little that the mudguards for my son's bike were £30, which makes the cost of the trike mudguards more .... oh gods, it's the price of a bike, I can;t call that reasonable!

I think I will now have to re-calibrate my view of bike spending.  I have just bought my wife a Tern HSD for the school run (with daughter on board).  That bike was more than my last five bikes and the trike put together.

I may need to be sick, or at least have a little lie down.

Pimped my ride!
Luggage:

and Mudguards

Mudguards were second hand (from CTC forum) and my LBS had to sort some alternative attachment for it.  Bags direct from Arkel in Canada.
