Stiff Little Fingers at The Waterfront, Norwich supported by the final tour of Eddie And The Hotrods. The crowd of aged punk rockers held their own, and some, against the yoofs.

I'm off to see UK Subs who are supporting the original lineup of Sham 69 tonight, also in Norwich, but at Epic Studios this time. Should be a good night.

Hazel O'Connor at The Kento, Henley.

Another good night of 80's punk Hazel and later Jazz Hazel.

Just back from 'The Christians' at the Library Theatre in Darwen. Last time I saw them was in June 1988 at Hammersmith Odeon, with Roachford as support.
An excellent first night to their tour, in a sold-out small venue. They seemed to enjoy themselves.

No-one give me a hard time but we saw Tom Chaplin and orchestra doing the songs of Queen last Monday at the Palladium.  A is a long standing Keane fan and hasn’t really got over them splitting up.

TBH I really enjoyed myself.

Not exactly a gig, but rather a Grauniad Live event with that publication's John Harris in conversation with Billy Bragg.  Mr Bragg was on good form, especially when it came to putting down noted fuckhead Carl Benjamin, but I still prefer him when he's got a guitar in his grubby little paws.

Heads up that the Dead Kennedys are playing the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds on the 6th August. Tickets on sale from tomorrow (21/06). Based on my experience of the DKs in Glasgow, and how great a venue the Brudenell is... I've booked the following day off work.

Q&A Session with literature's Ben Aaronovitch at the Bookseller Crow in Crystal Palace.  He is very large, and very funny.  And he's threatening to set a future episode in the series in...

Rob I googled when you said Keane had split as was under the impression they were on a break. Touring this year apparently with new album. I've got one of their singles in fierce panda I think which was re released on whatever big label when they made it.

We have had tickets for some time already to see King Crimson in Berlin next week. My brother noticed this weekend that The B52's are playing their old gits retirement tour there as well, so now we have tix for that too.
Seriously eating into beer time now....

Saw King Crimson tonight. More of a concert than a gig, with a good sound that allowed all the instruments their space. Three drummers provided complexity and power. I still think the old ones are the best, and they played a number of them. But not Cat Food  >:(

You are only supposed to take photos right at the end when they start taking photos of you. But when they do that they aren't playing anymore. So I took a few during 21st Century SM. (If you'd like I have a 9000 pixel wide version ;) )

The audience was largely reflective. Of the fact this is a 50th Anniversary tour.

Research shows that they play a different set each show. They played Cat Food earlier in the week.

^ We saw them in Berlin on Saturday night, open air gig.
The 3 drummers were brilliant, I loved their 'drum off'/mexican wave.
I wasn't too sure about the singer initially, I thought his voice was a bit 'musical' but he got a bit rockier for 21C SM.
I wouldn't describe myself as a massive KC fan but they were technically excellent and as a bit of a geek about time signatures & stuff it was a joy to watch.

The B52's on Thursday in Berlin at the same place were also good. Wasn't too sure what to expect from a 'party band' in their 70's but they can still belt them out, even if the dancing was relatively restrained.
The crowd made up for that though. I've never seen so many blokes dancing at a gig before, and they were mostly quite groovy grannies & grandads :)
Was a good laugh.

They didn't do Wig or Under the Strobe Light tho.

When my grate frend Mr Woolrich and I saw Jack White at the Hammy Odeon last year all phones had to be silenced or switched off before being sealed into pouches for the duration.  If you had a sudden need to phone a friend to tell her how shit the support act was you could get it temporarily liberated, but only outside the auditorium and it went back in its nest before you were allowed back in.

I saw Otis Redding on the Stax Voly Tour at Colston Hall, Bristol in '67 and three months later his plane crashed.
I saw James Brown in 2006 and a few months later he was dead.
John Otway I've seen twice over the years and he yet lives. Obviously a lucky fellow.
