First phrase from the Chelmsford wiki entry:- Chelmsford (/ˈtʃɛlmzfərd/) is a city[a] in the City of Chelmsford district.  The home of plain-speaking.  Dickens also spoke plainly about it: "the dullest and most stupid place on earth".  A surfeit of claret may have been responsible!  Certainly got a lovely cathedral.

Still in single figures °C  here. So heating deffo on.

Same. I optimistically switched the boiler on to summer mode a couple of weeks ago, but that didn't last!

Essex lose their first wicket - Cook for 25. He lasted 77 minutes, so I'd say that's a job well done for a night watchman. Khushi in now. He blasted a very rapid 50 v Lancs before getting out. I think a longer knock is called for today. 69-1.

In what world does Apollo not need a social worker? Strange indeed.

One in which the council is bankrupt and desperately trying to cut costs. Also one in which Apollo is unlikely to be able to stand up for himself to ask for one, so with drawing this service may not get much push back unless cycleman is able to.

My spotting of a freshwater shrimp in the road yesterday led me to a website where you can buy a multipack of dragonfly nymphs, 5 per pack, mixed species, for just over £20.  I wonder how that fits in with conservation.

Alas I didn't have a camera with me, but as I walked back from our garage with an axe yesterday (the garage is in a different street from our house) I stepped over a trickle of water that runs across the lane most of the winter, possibly because of the number of tiny springs in the small limestone ridge we live on, and spotted some movement.  It was a large freshwater shrimp, in the middle of the road.

OT Knowledge / Re: Soil pipe joint

Took the side of the bath off to investigate.

Toilet pan end is siliconed and solvent welded.  None of that is reusable

Soil pipe end is the usual ring seal push fit.

So it's going to have to come out of the soil pipe.  Lots of silicone lubricant will be employed.  The word is that these often leak if disturbed after many years, so that brings me back to my original question - is there any way to renew the rubber ring seal in these?  It's not easy to replace the whole tee due to the bath and basin connections, although there are no further connections above this.  People seem to use sealant and/or self-amalgamating tape in the event of leaks - it is all very accessible once the shelf at the back of the bath has been ripped out, which it will be.
