Penrith is a better option if you're worried about your fitness as the route is a lot flatter.

We looked at that for us but it looks like we'll not make it this time, unfortunately.

That's a shame, PB. I was looking forward to mllePB's company.

Yay!
Many thanks; much appreciated.
I'll be travelling by train from Milton Keynes, so will probably ride from Oxenholme (approx 35 miles), or maybe Penrith. Anyone else going via the WCML?

As PB said, Penrith is much flatter less hilly. Lanes via Eamont Bridge and Appleby to Kirkby Stephen, then up.

Tees Cottage open day on the 7th/8th.... Anyone fancy it on the Sunday?

Well you could always come to Wing this weekend.

Unfortunately the Penrith train is booked, so I'll be arriving at Oxenholme at 12.20. Google bike-direction-map-thing reckons it'll take 4 to 5 hours, providing I "Use caution" as it "may involve errors or sections not suited for bicycling".   :-\

Hopefully I'll be there before last orders...  ::-)
May you always have tail wind.

Mrs Socks is away that weekend on a birthday do, so driving the campervan to meet me there is not an option.  I've booked a bed in one of the bunkrooms, as long as the weather isn't too bad I'll be there.

I should probably book some trains. For the return route to Darlo, what sort of time would we expect to arrive?

I've got a 14:39 train from Darlo on the Saturday (which includes about an hour to change at York), on the basis that I didn't want to be in a rush where COR was concerned, and that particular combination saved me the best part of 30 quid.  I figure there's time for a lunch stop on the way, or indeed a visit to Tees Cottage.

I was going to say 2-3 for the group ride back down the track. Last month we were in a bit of a rush, as Dale and I had to get to work, and Debs had a hot gig to get to.

You could do it much quicker (I've done it the other way in less than three hours), but 2-3 will be fine with a generous second breakfast allowance in Barnie or Eppleby.

In other news, my mate says he got the last spot in the bunk, so anyone else who's coming will be camping.

I've updated the OP with a list of those who I think are coming - but come along if you fancy it, you don't have to tell me.

I'm thinking of training up to Northallerton and riding from there - any use to you, tiermat? Mid-afternoon ish with my camping kit.

I'll be there.  I might even pitch my tent properly this time.

I've booked a train at 3.30 from Darlo (it was the cheapest option). That gives me plenty of time to brave the COR :o (though I'll be on sensible tyres this time so it'll really just be OR).

Unless the wind is like it is today, in which case I'll go to Carlisle, I'll be getting the Grand Central to Northallerton for (I think) 1:30pm. Not sure on bike yet, I might try and go lightweight with the bikepacking kit on the CdF, I was super intrigued by Karlas setup last time so might try and replicate.

I'm still intending to come, will be camping.

Prob will ride from Northallerton, nothing set in stone yet. Plans depend partly on how wisdom tooth extraction goes.

Currently looking like a tailwind from Carlisle, so I'll probably go there. Haven't booked a train or planned a route yet...

I really wanted to do this but in order to get my holidays at the end of the month I will be working additional days at the start. Sadly the 6th and 7th are both work days.

Enjoy yourselves folks 8)

If that stays the same, you'll probably have Dale with you as well...

Do you need to book for camping?  I've got train tickets but they may be messed up by the strike the day before.  And I'm not honestly sure I can make it anyway.

No, you don't need to book for camping - he's not willing to camp so he's after a bed.

Hope you can make it, Pete.

We're a bit wavering.
I want to go but I can't eat anything, and Mr Smith kind of doesn't want to go because he can't drink anything.

We'll decide tonight-  we have 2 beds booked.
