I have a saw file, but it is a bit old and in one of those 'guides' that never has the correct angles.

So I've bought two saw files from Germany. According to tool maker Dave Budd, they are the dogs.

Next, several enjoyable hours filing and re-setting a couple of saws.

So what about that tool that you bought but then forgot?

A thread such as this somewhere persuaded me that a VAR chainring-bolt tool would be a good idea, and probably highlighted one at a really good price. I found it this week in the back of a cupboard

Looks a really nice tool. Really should use it next time I have some rings to change

That seems like a lot of money for not many tools so I hope there's a torque wrench hiding in there for that price.

Judging by some of the people he rescues on his YouTube, channel off-roading in the US is a hobby that some people happily throw absolutely mind-boggling amounts of money at. That product exists to milk them.

The man with the red coat obliged with a cordless* hot glue gun to replace a rather useless Bosch "glue pen" and supplement my >40 year old corded hot glue gun - and I even found that the glue sticks I've had for years but didn't fit the tools I had DO work with the new gun

*same battery platform as all but one of my other cordless tools.

Santa didn't bring any new tools, tho I did treat myself to a new router.

But I did end Christmas day with more tools than I started with, kinda. In tidying up to make the flat suitable to receive guests, I found I now have 3 sets of allen keys... as well as a missing chisel...

Projects for this year include a better tool box...

Present to myself was a DeWalt multitool, using the same batteries as my impact drill and impact wrench. First job was to repair the bathroom door frame after I'd had to hack my way through the frame to open the door when the locking latch failed. Second job was door sill adjustment with the sander head.

Brilliant tool - why did |I not buy one years ago??

I got myself 2 Knipex High Leverage side cutters, a 140mm and a 200mm:

Could not resist this set, when I was only looking for a 1/4" ratchet driver, to accompany the bicycle torque wrench set that (reading the instructions reveals) you must only use it to finally tighten bolts, not for general use.

Not on sale until tomorrow apparently, but they were in the Hadleigh, (Essex) store today.

Trying to void the warranty on a toaster oven, I discovered two of the screws are annoying triangular head. As this is he second time in a year I've hit up against this I caved and bought a iFixit Manta bit set. 112 pieces of warranty voiding goodness.

Beautiful tools.

Ooh. I was just thinking we needed to get a set of Wera micro screwdrivers to replace our crappy selection of jewellers flat heads... But now there is something else to look at...

I have wera 4mm bit driver. I have a wera vario 80 handle. The iFixit kit is nicer to use. But the whole set is bulky. Something for a permanent work bench rather than the portable setup...

Now trying to resist the temptation to disassemble all the things...

I have the Mako, it's done everything I need so far. A subtle feature is the lid having a sorting tray moulded in, so you can put screws etc. into it and keep them in order so you know which holes they go back into. I liked it so much I bought my son one (he'd been eyeing up mine).

We've got an iFixit Essential at work. It has the tools for prising open plastic cases etc., but the bit holder is plastic rather than metal and doesn't feel anywhere near as nice in your hand.

We have the pro tech kit, and the manta kit at work. Which is why I was willing to invest in the manta for myself.

The pro tech kit contains mako kit.

Wasn't in any way trying to denigrate your choice - they really are beautiful things to use. And if money or space isn't an object the big kit is the way to go; but I think the Mako hits a sweet spot of having most things you'll need and the good quality metal handle rather than the plastic one. I have a lovely older Wera set of a dozen more traditional small screwdrivers, though that has had little use since getting the Mako.

Using stuff like this shows how utterly carp most of the "precision" screwdriver kits you can get are.

Good to hear about the Mako as I ordered a B grade Mako set last night, as well as a Jimmy and another poking type device.
