We'll be doing that later - later in the four week time period I think we have.

Yes, Jaded, you have until 16th Spetember to apply for tickets.

I have just tried getting onto the site and it says there is anywhere up to a 30 minute wait!

Think I'll try again another time :)

It was easier for me to do it now while Macbobb is here to discuss what we wanted to apply for.

HAving applied for track and field, hockey cycling and something else, I have been allocated Hockey and T&F.

Great, the two sports I haven't really got any interest in :(

Just got an email. We got the last day of the Track Cycling and the T&F 200m day. So quite chuffed.

I think it's racism. Everyone I know who got tickets is in England.

Yes, but first dibs on available tickets will go to those who registered and applied for tickets first time around.

With track cycling oversubscribed by a factor of 25 I was not surprised not to get any of those. Did Get tickets for athletics on Sunday though so barring injury I should get to see Mo run.

For those who have got tickets but don't live within striking distance, the big problem looks to be accommodation. Very few hotel rooms currently available and most of those that are are in high end expensive ones with prices well over there normal charges (although to be fair these prices are being quoted by booking companies, with the hotels own websites showing no availability). I found an upmarket B&B which opened its booking for that fortnight this morning and with the help of BT's ringback service manage to book a 5 night stay. Cheap or mid price accommodation would appear to be even rearer than track cycling tickets, so my advice would be to start looking now.

We are going to be staying in Auld Reekie.

It will be interesting to see if we get offered more tickets. Personally, I don't think that is fair. They should be offered to those unlucky so far.

The next round starts in about 2 weeks and everyone who failed to get tickets will be offered them, and although everyone who got tickets will also get the chance to buy more, these are going to be tickets for under-subscribed events so they are unlikely to be snapped up quickly so everyone should have a fair chance of getting some. I believe this is going to be on a first come first serve basis.

I'm sure you will still enjoy it, we got tickets for slalom canoeing in London which turned out to be really good, and the atmosphere was bloody amazing. I sure Glasgow will be buzzing as well, might get me some tickets for Bowls!

Luckily for that child, we only got hockey tickets from our attempts at many sports, so we can all go, and don't have to make the decision about the others that we didn't get! So that's hockey and road racing. Maybe I can convince them to come and watch the time trials as well.  I see MTB was sold out.

My Kenyan colleague has been telling us that Kenyans abroad have been asked if they would like to pick a sport to compete in at the Games. Kenya apparently puts all its sporting money into their runners and doesn't fund anything else, so they're saying to people if you would like to compete, pick a sport, and you can be in a team. They're especially encouraging Kenyans in Scotland who won't need accommodation.  ;D Mary has spent a few days deciding what sport she could do and she's considering being part of the first Kenyan Commonwealth Games lawn bowls team.  :D And I'm wondering how to convince the Games authorities that I'm eligible for her competitor's family tickets. I might have to pretend to have married her brother.

We have discussed this and feel it's a really good option, because if anyone challenges us, we can accuse them of both homophobia and racism.

It's the inclusion of lawn bowls that raise this above just another big sporting event. I do hop that one day the Olympics go to Paris (or Marseilles or somewhere) and we have Olympic petanque.

I hope to be volunteering in Glesga for the duration. Apparently they might want me in press operations. Well I suppose someone has to open and close the cupboard door.
