Questionable grown up utterances
« on: 24 October, 2012, 11:18:05 pm »
Father to boy about two years old:
"We don't do crying."

Unidentified member of staff at preserved railway station, non-steaming day, to girl about 5 or 6:
"Don't ride your bike on the platform! You might hurt someone!"
She, her mum and the u.m.o.s. were the only people on the platform and she was riding at walking pace.
Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.

Yes, wrong reason entirely.  "You might hurt yourself" is perfectly reasonable - falling off a platform after a wobble would not be nice.  I suspect it could also be forbidden in the same way as it is on a mainline station, so "It's not allowed" would be an acceptable, if blunt, reason.

And kids are quick to pick up on illogicality.
If I had a baby elephant, it could help me wash the car. If I had a car.
