Title: Racing Collective Xduro
Post by: mattc on 19 June, 2018, 08:11:48 pm
Multiple "gravel/road" races over the year, rather "relaxed" format. Some are around 100km-in-1-day, most are longer, such as this one:

Here's a blog from the shorter Oxford ride:

The biggest <cough spit> aspect of this idea is the dependence on Strava - but I'm liking just about everything else. At least from what I've read. Big shame I missed the Oxford event on Saturday to get a taste, but I watched the peleton leaving town and it looked relaxed/bonkers fun.

I did the Crossduro Scotland one last year - it was good fun, despite being way out of my comfort zone. I had no intention of "racing" it - it just sounded like an interesting route, and it definitely was. (Someone else's writeup here: https://www.fionaoutdoors.co.uk/2017/09/cyclists-take-part-first-crossduroscotland.html). I'm intending to do it again this year, with lower gearing and with a saddlebag that doesn't rub on my rear tyre.

The Scotland one was pretty small last year - not sure how many will be doing it this year, but I guess an Inverness start is a bit difficult for lots of folks. Looks as though the events down south attract bigger fields.

Quite a few of my club-mates rode the oxford one.  Some of them were more focussed on where the beer and cakes were than where the timed segments were, but I think they all had fun. Bonus points for those who rode the 9-up TTT at Silverstone the night before (and enjoyed the after party a bit too much)!

"Crossduro"? I read it as "exduro" being the opposite of "enduro"! Whatever you call it, it looks like another format of demanding fun. Doubt I'll be taking part in one – but maybe, if there's one near me...

I think the late June one is very near you - and one of the shortest ;)

This one? https://www.theracingcollective.com/cotsduro.html
A 10a.m. start – how absurdly civilized!  ;D Unfortunately I have both an audax and my son's birthday that weekend, so no can do.  :(

On the general format, I've just spotted that you're supposed to "tweet a timestamped photo" from the start. So you've got to do Twitter as well as Strava! It is both uncommercial and very commercial.

Then you get to see deceased cetaceans instead? Not endorphins but exdolphins?

(Yes, I do know where the Terrible Jokes thread is.  :-[)
