Title: [LEL17] Nameplates/badges ORDERS CLOSED!!
Post by: alfapete on 14 February, 2017, 08:17:41 pm
We've had the tyre lever conversation, so it must be time for nameplates!

Can't recall who organised the nameplates on LEL 2013 - can anyone advise?

I was thinking that volunteer badges bearing yacf names might complement these, but I don't want to tread on anyone's toes if plans are already in hand.

guilty as charged, m'lud
Someone else was kind enough to take it on for PBP2015 (albeit with the same printer) as I soon became engaged on other duties.

We are setting up frame numbers etc with same supplier as 2013 .. contact established .. but not progressed yet.
assuming we talk soon .. I will raise a YACF query .. and then report back on here .

I will not take on organising YACF  name plates

After a couple of PM's it looks like I'm the man to organise these this time. Will progress a design and make enquiries, and report back here a little nearer the time.

If you have an interest in a bike nameplate or a volunteer badge by all means post on here and I'll make sure you're included in any information when it's available.

You'll get one similar to that when you register, the discussion here is about larger nameplates with your yacf name on, for those who want to peep over the edge of their anonimity cloak during the event

LEL provides 2 frame plates .. one usually goes on the front ( somehow)  and one is shaped for the frame triangle. This discussion I suspect is about a different one that for example has ..   FidgetBuzz also known as  Roger .. on it,  which might travel on my saddlebag ( if I was riding ) .. so that it is easy to start a conversation  .. Oh you are .... or Hi Roger where you from etc etc .

Can I ask that you make the name plates really, really, REALLY heavy? Say, 10Kg or thereabouts.

Helps reduce the advantage that the lightweights have over those of us with *proper* bikes  ;D

A bit spendy (http://www.redfields.co.uk/lead-house-signs), but would add a touch of class to any bike.

But if we do that, and you're planning on using your 2013 lightweight nameplate, wouldn't that make you a bit lightweight?

As a non-rider, my nameplate (which appeared together with ones for CrinklyAuntie and the Cubs in the post after the CrinklyClan helped out one of the people who organised them during the build up) never got fixed to a bike.

It did go on a lanyard for the duration tho...

As for sails, well the Roadster Sovereign already has 'em in the form of full coat-guards covering the rear wheel. I just need to learn to tack against the wind and I'll be fine.

LEL provides 2 frame plates .. normally one for front of bike and one cut to fit into the frame triangle. these had your rider number i.e. H 35 .. so H defined your start group time and 35 personalised it to you .. no name on it.

YACF did a name plate like Crinkly's that YACFers put onto their saddle bag . so that someone  can see from behind your name and your YACF moniker .. so mine would have had Roger .. Fidgetbuzz

Would definitely like one, please advise as and when.
Missed out on the official 2013 one, but the PBP 2015 version started many enjoyable conversations.
Still need some fitness/talent/willpower though !

With grateful thanks to Stevevw OTP (and baby alfapete) here are the designs for the LEL2017 Nameplates and Badges.

These are just for fun, and are not official LEL merchandise - the organisers will supply you with small numbered frameplates to use on your bike during the event - these are an optional extra! For those unfamiliar with the concept they are intended for attaching to your saddlebag or rack so others can address you appropriately when calling out encouragement or abuse during the ride. You can punch the cards and use zipties to attach them however you like.

The two designs differ only in the presence or abscence of the yacf logo - I'll market them via facebook once I see how they go on here. If you're interested PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you details of how to order.

(https://68.media.tumblr.com/7294e8372d922bf70ae0e676898f312c/tumblr_omvfipM0Vm1w6568oo2_540.jpg)           (https://68.media.tumblr.com/c3549856cc0541d02abe6a62ebfa5edb/tumblr_omvfipM0Vm1w6568oo1_540.jpg)

Size is A6 (105mm x 148mm), and you can specify two lines of text of up to 14 characters each. In addition you can request any flag you like for inclusion.

Cost for one is £2 but if you want more than one then the second and subsequent ones will be only £1 each - prices include delivery.

In addition this time we're also making pinbadges with the same design as the Nameplates. These are intended for volunteers to wear at controls, but they could be worn by anyone. These will be 85mm x 55mm and will cost £1.50 each, and they might be delivered to your control for collection (TBC)

To place an order please PM me your e-mail address and I'll let you know what information I require from you and will send payment details. Closing date for orders will be around the end of April.

My daughter said some awkward bugger would want multiple flags. Three minutes was all it took!

I don't want to meddle with the design now, so it's a 'No', but you could cut one out and stick it over the LEL logo, I suppose!

Be easy enough to do two flags at the bottom and lose the YACF logo I'd have thought - if you want to cater for the awkward buggers.

Orders for these were grinding to a halt after the initial yacf and then facebook activities.

The issuing of start times has suddenly focussed everyone's minds and I've had another glut of orders in the last 24 hours.

But still less than 1 in 50 of the entrants will be sporting this bit of designer-wear/ware.

Just a week till orders close on Nameplates and Badges. Almost 70 have been ordered, and 40 of these have come through yacf, the rest through Facebook.

If you've already requested details and think you haven't heard from me please check your spam folders as my e-mail address isn't always considered favourable, and I'd normally respond to a PM within 2 days.

If you've decided at the last minute that they're a 'must have' then PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the ordering details.

Orders now closed, I'm afraid.

I have had requests for 54 yacf Nameplates, 29 without the yacf logo, but some of these have ordered more than one plate, so in total there will be 48 different riders using them.
The badges were less popular (unsurprisingly) with a total of 22 badges ordered by 17 different individuals.

I'll post on here when they have been created and posted - remember (depending on numbers) the badges may be sent to your control - they're more bulky so postage price is a factor. But I'll let you all know.

Thanks to stevevw OTP for creating these - I'm just doing the admin.

Here they are!

Nameplates and badges have gone in the post today, second class - they look grand! They even come with helpful instructions on how to use them... Graeme's Nameplate is shown here because he was the very first to order. Very many thanks to Stevevw OTP for producing them.

Initially I wasn't sure about posting the badges but there were sufficiently few to make this worthwhile, and all the overseas ones have been posted at the same time. Please let me know when they begin to arrive.

The volume of LEL correspondence seems to be ratcheting up over the weekend - both Nameplate and Control matters - it's becoming more real all the time. Don't know what your nerves are like?

The small profit made from creating your Nameplates (all £32 of it) has just been donated to Sustrans.
No comments please about how it should have gone somewhere else - this is a good news story!
