How do I find the address to access a virgin router
« on: 26 January, 2017, 10:41:59 pm »
Ok virgin superhub that I  have turned off the wifi so Iam using a homehub 5a for the wireless and now I can access the virgin router on it's ip adress.

How can I find the address of my router?

Ipconfig gives the DNS servers as: 194.168.4.100
                                                        194.168.8.100

Thanks

The usual is 192.168.0.1 for most routers, but YMMV. Maybe asking the obvious but is it on a sticker on the router?

Tried doesn't work

I suspect I may have changed it by accident

Might be 198.168.0.100 if the Virgin box is in modem mode in order to pass traffic through to the Homehub.

If the homehub and Virgin boxes are connected to the same LAN you may have the problem that both will be trying to use 192.168.0.1 and the BT may have won. Try switching of the BT and using a PC that is connected with a network cable to the Virgin box.

Would help to know what is the response from the addresses you try?

If using Windows, double-click the Network icon. You may see a device calling itself 'ARRIS TG2492LG-85 Router'. If so that's the Virgin router and you can double click on that to launch the admin.

Hello

At the moment the bt home hub is turned off and I am connect to the modem port to my computer.

Win 10 doesn't seem to state the router just that it is connected via an ethernet cable.

If the homehub is just bridging, then it should be on the default gateway address given by ipconfig.

If you're double-NATing then it'll be something else.  Find out what's going on on the homehub's WAN side by asking the homehub.  Or traceroute might help.

ETA having seen that latest post:  That should take any double-NAT out of the equation.  It'll be on the default gateway address given by ipconfig.

Sorry, try 192.168.100.1 (my bad) as the default if the box is in modem mode.
